Our vision is to create a community without barriers for survivors of stroke.

The North Shore Stroke Recovery Centre (NSSRC) is currently seeking 2 volunteer Board Members for a two-year renewable term:

  1. Board Secretary
  2. Board Member with a focus in Human Resources

Preference is given to applicants who live in or around the North Shore (North or West Vancouver, British Columbia) and those who have experience with non profits, particularly related to senior health.

At the NSSRC, we envision a future without barriers for survivors of stroke. Since 1974, our team has worked on the organization's mission to maximize the quality of life for people impacted by stroke through accessible programming, peer support and healthcare partnerships. We are the only community-based program that supports stroke recovery for North & West Vancouver and Sea-to-Sky corridor residents, operating therapy and support programming.

The NSSRC Board is responsible for strategic planning, financial oversight, risk management and overall governance of the organization. It is made up of community members committed to continuing the work and support provided by the Centre.

position is responsible for:

  • Monthly Board meeting preparation, including compiling meeting agendas and distributing them in advance
  • Recording of meeting minutes during the Board meetings
  • Maintaining organized and up-to-date records of official documents, bylaws, and other key governance materials
  • Annual meeting planning including the coordination of the NSSRC annual general meeting & distribution of documents
  • Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to Board activities

Our General Board Member with a focus in
Human Resources

would assist in:

  • Advising the board on
    HR governance

, staffing structures, and organizational capacity.
- Supporting the review and development of
HR policies, staff and volunteer handbooks

, and related procedures.
- Assisting in the
recruitment

of staff when needed.
- Contributing to discussions on
workplace culture, wellness, and retention

strategies.
- Helping ensure
compliance

with labour and employment legislation.
- Serving as a member of the
Governance Committee

.
- Representing the organization at relevant events, conferences and meetings to enhance its visibility and network with potential supporters.
- Advocating for the organization's mission and initiatives within the community and with relevant stakeholders.

A Board Member will typically spend 5-10 hours per month on the Board's business, including attendance at monthly Board meetings (September through June).
Board meetings are held monthly from September through June, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.
We ask that prospective members ensure they can attend these meetings before applying, as regular participation is essential to the work of the Board.
