Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Power Supervisor is responsible for:

Organizing, maintaining, and supervising the work activities of maintenance crews consisting of Power Technicians, Servicepersons, and various Contractors in carrying out effective and timely preventative maintenance and repair of electrical systems including Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS), lighting, electrical service panels and feeds plus Propulsion Power Substation and distribution equipment, batteries and charging equipment, system wide cabling, and guideway mounted electrical equipment.

Participates in the review and update of maintenance schedules and procedures;

Prepares work schedules, directs and distributes work to crews to meet the monthly scheduled maintenance targets;

Organizes drawings, materials, tools required, work methods and directs Power Technicians and Servicepersons for various electrical installations;

Monitors and evaluates staff and Contractor performance, administers the provisions of the collective agreement.

Ensures compliance with applicable safety regulations, the Canadian Electrical code, safe work practices and standard operating procedures;

Coordinates and leads the departmental monthly safety meetings;

Is required to investigate equipment failures, staff injuries, system delays and prepare written reports;

Assists in the preparation of the annual operating budget and works within the operating budget for this department.

Develops and implements Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) relevant to the Power Systems maintenance program;

Coordinates and administers the Power Apprenticeship program;

Represents the Power maintenance department on internal and external committees;

EDUCATION

Red Seal or Interprovincial Ticket in an electrical trade or have graduated from a college or university in a relevant discipline. Preference will be given to individuals possessing an "A" electrical license.

Requires a minimum of 5 years previous experience in a progressively responsible position in a unionized environment, preferably in rail transportation, with a broad knowledge of all aspects of mechanical, electrical and electronic repairs, with demonstrated supervisory skills and ability to administer policies, procedures and union agreements.

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures and practices

Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team

Advanced written and verbal communication skills

Supervisory experience in a unionized setting with exposure to labour relations

Sound knowledge of standard office software

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The requirements for this job are acquired through a Red Seal or Interprovincial Ticket in an electrical trade or graduation from a college or university in a relevant discipline and documented successful completion of applicable and appropriate supervisory skills training from an accredited institution. Preference will be given to individuals possessing an "A" electrical license, plus five (5) years' experience in the maintenance technical service, including three (3) years' experience in a supervisory capacity working in a unionized shop environment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Advanced knowledge of the principles, theory, concepts and practices related to the maintenance function.

Solid decision-making skills to respond, assess and react to a variety of operational and emergency situations

Solid teamwork and interpersonal skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Solid leadership, development and team building skills to provide direction to reporting staff.

Excellent communications skills, both written and oral.

Requires shift work, which includes weekends, evenings, and night shifts

Other Information

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Rate of Pay

The salary for this position ranges from $82,400 - $123,600 per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills, and qualifications as they relate to the role.
