The Alex Youth Health Centre is a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for young people ages 12 to 24 to access health and social care without judgment. Our team of doctors, nurses, mental health clinicians, social workers, case managers and peer support workers work together to support youth as they navigate life's challenges, big or small, with dignity, trust, and compassion at the core of everything we do.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Social Team Lead oversees the YHC Social Team, including Social Workers, Case Managers and Peer Support Workers. The Team Lead mentors and supervises the Social Team, ensuring program policies, evidence-based standards, and intensive case-management models are followed to achieve optimal client outcomes. The Team Lead also facilitates programming in the Social space, completes intakes, and triages clients.  

This is a permanent, full-time position. 

What You Will Do

 Team Management

Provide overall leadership, management, and direction to direct reports. Lead day-to-day operations of a multidisciplinary team (recruitment, orientation, scheduling, payroll, recognition, and performance management). Coordinate staff onboarding/off-boarding and support ongoing professional development.Foster a culture where all staff practice to full scope, receive mentorship, and pursue professional growth.Provide strong leadership and cultivate a culture of excellence, accountability, self-care, innovation, and collaboration. Serve as a resource on emerging research, best practices, and methodologies relevant to social work.  Guide staff in ethical decision making and ensure compliance with relevant policies and regulations.  

 Program Administration 

Monitor and analyze outcome data to inform program development and decision making.Coordinate with the Clinic Manager to address service delivery, prepare department budgets, and handle administrative and community-related matters. Lead the preparation and submission of funding reports and support the development of proposals related to youth social programs.  Monitor program budgets and program spending, and anticipate program needs to inform future budgets and fund development opportunities. 

 Program Standards 

Support the Clinic Manager and Clinic Team Lead with continuous improvement and innovation in service delivery to enhance client -centered, culturally safe, effective programs. Define and communicate program goals, expected outcomes, and key achievements.  Participate in developing, measuring and collecting program and funder outcomes.Collaborate with internal and external partners to strengthen service integration and maximize impact. Ensure that staff maintain proper documentation and compliance with program, agency, and professional college requirements.Deliver direct front-line support. Collaborate, implement, and document operational workflows. Oversee workplace health & safety, privacy, and EMR stewardship.Monitor the appropriate data repository to ensure client demographics and client instrument bundles are fully completed at scheduled intervals.Supervise volunteers and student learners. Assist in the development of relevant policies and procedures.Supervise and monitor crisis situations. Provide tours and information to individuals and groups as directed. Perform other duties as assigned. What You BringA bachelor's degree or diploma in social work. Active registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) is required. A minimum of 5 years' experience working with the high-risk/homeless youth population is preferred.A minimum of two to three years' experience in a management/supervisory position is preferred.Demonstrated competence in organizational, managerial, and administrative skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Proficiency using Microsoft Suite and EMR platforms and a willingness to learn additional software as required.Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based, data-driven program delivery and evaluation, with expert skills in assessment, intervention, consultation, crisis counselling, and advocacy, and deep knowledge of social and healthcare case-management models.Ability to design and implement responsive, client-centered programming.Working knowledge of and experience with youth, family and community service programs.Strong knowledge of youth sector-related services and resources.Availability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the program.A passion for advocating for at-risk youth. A class 5 driver's license, 3-year clean drivers abstract, and a personal vehicle that can be used for work purposes are required. First Aid (Basic or Intermediate) – Level C CPR & AED within 30 days of hire date; certification must be valid for a minimum of 6 months upon hireA satisfactory criminal record clearance and a child welfare intervention check are required.Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action is required.  

Work Environment and Hours

  • Primarily based at The Alex Youth Health Centre located: Ave SE, Calgary, AB; travel to other Alex sites as part of work duties may be required. 
  • Standard hours are from 10:00am – 6:00pm Monday-Friday; flexibility in hours is required. 
  • 1.0 FTE (37.5 hrs/wk)
  • Continuous extended periods of sitting, with some standing and walking (sometimes up/down stairwells). 
  • Occasional driving as part of work duties. 
  • Occasional physical activity requires the ability to bend/crouch, reach above shoulder height, kneel/crawl, and carry objects (up to 20 lbs.) throughout shift.
  • Occasional time outside in all weather conditions.

Driving on Behalf of The Alex  

This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for work-related purposes. Successful candidates must show proof of a class 5 driver's license, a personal vehicle, and a clean 3-year drivers abstract. Candidates must consent to the possibility of an annual driver's abstract review to meet our insurance provider's requirements and to maintain $2 million liability insurance on their personal vehicle. Driving a fleet vehicle at The Alex requires that staff are at least 21 years of age with a minimum of three (3) years' driving experience. Mileage will be reimbursed in alignment with the CRA guidelines.
