Job Description

The Repair and Maintenance Technician is responsible for the ongoing repair and general maintenance of all Farm Boy Stores, which includes mechanical equipment, building fixtures and assets. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, customers and suppliers. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy Way.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled inspections of stores and complete a checklist of repair and maintenance items such as but not limited to: loose panel/trim, shopping cart repairs/cleaning, compactor cleaning, drywall repair, painting, door adjustments and window cleaning etc.
  • Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot and repair commercial equipment within the stores to ensure ongoing and reliable operation.
  • Assess, report on, promote and carry out process improvements initiatives, specifically with regards to machine and/or system reliability and improved performance.
  • Maintain the preventive maintenance program, carry out maintenance activities, and replace or repair defective parts, components or system performance testing.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Complete all scheduled work orders or report reason for non-compliance and close them in the system.
  • Perform scheduled repairs and installations as required.
  • Assist in the set-up of new stores and renovations.
  • Purchase and sign out parts as required.
  • Perform emergency response as required.
  • Power equipment certified, use power equipment and perform as a spotter for power equipment.
  • Required to work at heights and willingness to be certified.
  • General construction: concrete repair, floor and wall sealing.
  • Create a daily/weekly plan to stay organized to complete work orders.
  • Ability to perform physical duties which may include bending, kneeling, reaching, standing for extended periods of time, climbing ladders, lifting, and carrying boxes, tools, and equipment.
  • May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis.
Qualifications
  • Typically requires completion of post-secondary education in a related discipline and 3+ years of experience in building/residential repair and maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Certificate of Qualification, Provisional Certificate of Qualification in the following (but not limited to), plumbing, electrical, and HVAC will be considered an asset. 
  • Previous experience in a related field to general contracting and equipment maintenance/repair will also be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge in Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, or Refrigeration work.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Regulations.
  • Ability to work with little supervision with frequent travel between retail locations as required.
  • Valid driver's license is required. 
  • High standard of workmanship, quality, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to time manage and prioritize tasks based on urgency and business need with ability to work under pressure.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, overnight, and weekends as required.
  • Proficient with hand/power tools is required.
  • Ability to use and be power equipment certified is required.
  • Ability to be certified and work at heights is required.
  • Ability to evaluate and identify maintenance problems and propose/execute solutions efficiently.

Work & Sensory Environment:

  • Occasional requirement to wear cumbersome protective clothing or equipment.
  • Possible exposure to dangerous or unpleasant environmental elements such as dirt or dust, extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions for driving and/or for outdoor work.
  • Will be required to lift, carry and/or handle heavy objects.
