Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Operations. The Finance Officers provide accounting services such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue operations, analysis, reports, financial advice and support to clients, and other assigned administration duties, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), financial and applicable legislation, policies, procedures, control processes, and collective agreements, to ensure quality financial and client services, in accordance with the financial and service goals of the Government of Nunavut.

The Finance Officers impact the quality of assigned accounting services provided for the assigned Departments. This impacts time and correct payments to employees and suppliers, the secure handling and deposit of revenues, accurate financial reports for management decision making at the Department level, and the reputation of the Department and the Government of Nunavut internally and externally. The coordination of department-wide financial impacts the quality of system-wide financial documentation and operations. Assigned administrative responsibilities such as travel and contacts with internal and external service providers and stakeholders' impact on cost effective arrangements, client satisfaction, effective relationships internally and externally, and work unit effectiveness. 

Qualifications

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized college diploma in a related field, plus two (2) years of experience of relevant finance experience in a computerized environment.  Experience in providing advisory services to clients  

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
