EPCOR's Water Services Project Management team is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated
Co-op student
to join our
Water Linear Projects group
— based at the historic
Rossdale Water Treatment Plant
in Edmonton. This is your chance to work alongside experienced professionals, contribute to meaningful projects, and gain hands-on experience in shaping the systems that keep our communities flowing.
Who We Are – EPCOR Water Services
At EPCOR, we've been shaping the future of water for over 100 years. From designing and building treatment plants to operating water and wastewater systems, we help communities and industries across Western Canada access clean, safe water every day.
We serve more than
85 communities and industrial sites
, ensuring water meets — and exceeds — public health, environmental, and industrial standards. In Edmonton, we also manage the city's
wastewater and stormwater systems
— everything from underground pipes and tunnels to pump stations and biosolids facilities. It's all part of keeping our environment healthy and our communities thriving.
Whether you're passionate about sustainability, engineering, or community impact, EPCOR offers a chance to be part of something bigger.
Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
At EPCOR, we believe that
diverse perspectives fuel innovation
. We're proud to foster a workplace where everyone feels welcome, valued, and empowered to bring their whole selves to work.
When you join
Team EPCOR
, you'll find:
- A culture that celebrates different backgrounds and ideas
- A supportive environment where your voice matters
- A commitment to equity and accessibility throughout the hiring process
We encourage students from all walks of life to explore opportunities with us. If you need
accommodations
during the application process, we're here to help.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Co-op Student with EPCOR's Water Linear Projects team, you'll be part of the action — helping shape the infrastructure that keeps our communities running. Your role will give you hands-on experience in municipal water and sewer
servicing, and
expose you to real-world engineering and project management practices.
Here's what you might get involved in:
- Reviewing engineering plans for water, sewer, and stormwater systems — making sure they meet regulations, standards, and bylaws before they're approved
- Supporting developers and builders by
advising
on service applications for everything from single-family homes to large commercial projects
- Processing servicing payments and preparing work orders for construction — helping ensure projects stay on track and meet performance targets
- Responding to inquiries from applicants and internal teams — providing clear, timely information about servicing and drainage
- Contributing to policy and process improvements — offering input on guidelines, bylaws, and procedures
- Updating technical records — reviewing and maintaining accurate as-built information for water and sewer systems
- Approving development plans once properties are legally registered
- Tracking and reporting monthly servicing statistics to support team planning and performance
What You'll Learn
This role offers exposure to key areas of municipal infrastructure, including:
- Water and sewer servicing construction
- GIS software used in public utilities
- Municipal planning and engineering standards
- Cross-functional collaboration with engineers, architects, and city departments
What You'll Need to Succeed
To thrive in this Co-op role, you should bring a mix of technical knowledge, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Here's what we're looking for:
- You're currently enrolled in a full-time Civil Engineering Technology Co-op program
- You communicate clearly and work well both independently and as part of a team
- You've had experience preparing construction drawings with installation instructions
- You're comfortable using tools like Excel, Word, Outlook, Visio, SharePoint, Adobe Pro, Google Apps, Oracle, and MicroStation
- You have a general understanding of:
- Field construction and underground utility work
- Construction standards and field methods
- Internal plumbing and building systems
- Municipal and civil design and drafting
- You understand engineering plans and can interpret surface contours and elevations
- You're familiar with fluid mechanics and hydrology
- You can take
direction
and provide technical support to different EPCOR teams
- You're able to calculate inverts, obverts, and
crossing
elevations for sanitary and storm services
- You can interpret historical servicing documents and legal plans to track property changes
License Requirements:
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Driving record must have no more than 6 demerits at the time of hire. Please
note:
prior infractions for unsafe driving
behaviours
may result in non-selection, regardless of current demerits.
- A current
5 year
commercial driver's abstract will be required.
Bonus Skills That Make You Stand Out
- Experience with computer programming or coding
- Familiarity with data visualization tools like Power BI
- Previous work experience in municipal or construction environments
