leading Canadian marine and heavy-industry organization
specializing in the design and construction of complex vessels and infrastructure projects that support national defense and commercial operations. Their engineering division plays a key role in advancing modern shipbuilding and manufacturing practices across Canada.
You'll be joining a collaborative team of engineers and designers contributing to large-scale new-construction programs for the marine sector — projects that combine innovation, precision, and purpose.
The Opportunity
We're seeking
two Mechanical Engineers
(Level I and Level II) to support piping and auxiliary system design for major ship construction programs. These positions will work closely with production, quality, and planning teams to ensure mechanical systems are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with design intent and regulatory requirements.
Both roles are full-time on-site positions based at the company's North Vancouver facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide
engineering and design support
for piping and auxiliary systems during vessel construction, integration, and testing. - Review and resolve production issues such as system interferences, material substitutions, and design deviations.
- Verify design packages and calculations against contract, classification, and regulatory standards.
- Prepare and update
technical documentation
including system drawings, redlines, and engineering change requests. - Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to develop practical engineering solutions that maintain cost, schedule, and technical integrity.
- Support system testing and commissioning by reviewing test plans, witnessing tests, and resolving punch-list items.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to confirm technical data and ensure compliance with specifications.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree
in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Systems Engineering. - 0–2 years (Level I)
or
3–4 years (Level II)
of mechanical or piping engineering experience. - Previous
shipbuilding, ship repair, or heavy industrial experience
is an asset. - Eligible for registration as an
Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
with
Engineers & Geoscientists BC (EGBC)
. - Experience working in integrated project environments preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency with
AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, and Navisworks
(preferred). - Familiarity with MRP systems and document-control databases.
- Excellent communication, technical writing, and presentation skills.
- Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Commitment to maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.
- Proficiency with
Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
.
Additional Requirements
- Candidates must be
Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents
. - Must be eligible to obtain
Reliability and Controlled Goods Security Clearance
due to project sensitivity.
