Role Summary

To support Science & Humans' next-stage exponential growth, we are seeking a hands-on Director of Finance to partner with our CFO in building a high-quality, scalable finance function. You will ensure GAAP compliant financial reporting, global payroll management, and systems transformation. In addition, you will collaborate with external stakeholders to program manage corporate tax filings, year-end audits and grant financing. 

This is an opportunity to shape the finance function, implement modern systems, and drive operational excellence in a high-growth startup environment.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and own disciplined financial reporting  to meet various internal and external reporting needs.
  • Take ownership of global payroll management to support business growth needs, ensuring accurate, timely processing and tax compliance.
  • Transform expense management and optimize employee & vendor payment experience through policy, process development & system automation.
  • Collaborate with business to optimize payment cycles, collections, and cash forecasting and strengthen working capital management .
  • Work closely with external accounting firms to support the year-end audit process and corporate tax filing.
  • Own SR&ED return, HST filing and support various financing activities
  • Lead accounting system upgrade & integration and continuously identify opportunities for automation and AI-enabled workflows to improve finance operation productivity
  • Mentor junior finance staff and foster a culture of integrity, accountability, and operation excellence.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor degree in accounting; CPA designation required.
  • 7+ years of progressive finance accounting leadership experience, ideally in high-growth startups.
  • Solid GAAP reporting knowledge and skill with practical experience in leading the annual audit process.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP/accounting system implementation, payroll, expense management, AP/AR processes.
  • Familiarity with corporate tax compliance, SR&ED return, HST/GST filing, and government grants.
  • Knowledge of revenue recognition for mixed B2C/B2B models, equity compensation, and multi-entity operations..
  • Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills.Thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and evolving environment
