Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
As part of our expanding Facilities and Construction Engineering team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the design and assessment of civil and structural systems and components supporting both traditional nuclear facilities and emerging nuclear technology initiatives, including modular construction and advanced reactor programs.
This role combines design engineering and construction engineering expertise, focusing on facility design, constructability, temporary works, modularization, and field engineering support. The successful candidate will collaborate within a multidisciplinary engineering team to deliver safe, practical, and constructible solutions that meet regulatory, operational, and project-specific requirements.
- Lead and support Nuclear Facilities Design activities, including preparation of building layouts, architectural interfaces, and facility upgrade designs aligned with operational, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Provide Construction System Design services, offering engineering support for construction means and methods, including temporary works, scaffolding, shoring, rigging, and lifting systems to ensure safe and efficient field execution.
- Support and develop modular construction strategies, including module interface definition, transport and lifting design, sequencing, and onsite assembly planning to optimize constructability and minimize schedule risks.
- Conduct Constructability Reviews during early design stages to assess feasibility, evaluate modularization opportunities, and optimize construction sequencing and access.
- Provide Engineering Request (ER) Support, delivering timely and practical field engineering solutions to emergent site issues, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements.
- Perform civil/structural analysis and design for new and existing nuclear facilities, including foundations, framing systems, and reinforced concrete and steel structures.
- Conduct condition and performance assessments of existing civil structures and develop recommendations for repair, reinforcement, or upgrade.
- Interface with construction, procurement, and utility partners throughout the project lifecycle—from conceptual design through detailed engineering, construction, modular assembly, and project closeout.
- Apply knowledge of construction methods, modular fabrication, and digital construction technologies to enhance quality, safety, and efficiency in project delivery.
- Provide field engineering support, including on-site verification, design clarifications, and review of contractor submittals and change requests.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integration of civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical design within modular or conventional construction frameworks.
- Mentor and provide technical oversight to junior engineers and designers.
- Stay current with advancements in construction engineering, modular design methodologies, digital twin applications, and advanced construction technologies.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Need to Succeed
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's degree considered an asset).
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration in Ontario or New Brunswick.
- 5 years of relevant experience in civil/structural design and construction engineering support for industrial, utility, or nuclear projects.

- Strong understanding of constructability principles and construction engineering practices, with experience conducting field reviews and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and modeling software (STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, MathCAD) and CAD/BIM tools (AutoCAD, Navisworks, SmartPlant). Experience with 3D modeling and digital field coordination tools is an asset.
- Knowledge of civil/structural codes and standards such as CSA N287, N289, N291, NBCC, OBC, A23.3, and S16, and understanding of nuclear QA standards (CSA N286).
- Experience with Engineering Change Control (ECC) and documentation processes within nuclear or regulated environments.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and project coordination skills with the ability to interface effectively with clients and field teams.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational abilities with a focus on safety, constructability, and quality.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills across design, construction, and field teams.
