Job Duties
The Student Services Outreach and Success Navigator provides direct, immediate assessment and intervention to Sask Polytech students to reduce the likelihood of attrition, personal loss, crisis or harm to self, others or the institution, by ensuring a comprehensive understanding of needs and facilitating connection to the appropriate internal or external services.
- Receive referrals and conduct outreach to students identified as being at risk for leaving their program due to academic, or personal issues. Quickly establish effective rapport, assess needs across life domains, and make referrals for the student to internal or external services.
- At all times, act as a collaborator with the student, empowering their learning journey and creating a plan for holistic support. Provide case management to ensure the plan is effective.
- Provide immediate intervention to preserve personal, inter-personal, and institutional safety and well-being for a student in crisis. This includes collaborating with colleagues in Counselling Services, Student Relations, Campus Safety and Security, or any other relevant service.
- Proactively research, develop knowledge of, and establish working relationships with internal and external resources to support students. Liaise with and provide referrals to appropriate internal and external departments, agencies, and/or employers.
- Conduct oneself and complete all working tasks in adherence to the ethics of confidentiality, privacy, respect for and preservation of the inherent rights and dignity of the student.
- Complete, maintain and provide accurate and organized data entry, case file notes, documentation, referrals, scheduling, appointment management, reports and statistics.
- Act as a key driver in the evolution and development of the Student Services Outreach and Success Navigator role and the Early Alert program.
- Complete other duties and tasks as may be assigned and as the role and program develop.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)
A Diploma in Social work or Mental Health and Addictions Counselling or related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
A minimum of three years' experience independently providing direct service to clients in an educational or community based social/human service area.
Demonstrated experience in, and the ability to confidently and independently provide assessment, brief solutions-focused and/or crisis intervention, de-escalation, problem-solving, case management and referral services to clients.
Education and applied knowledge in the areas of human behaviour, adolescent and adult development, mental health, addictions, indicators of violence and abuse, suicide, self-injury, motivational interviewing strategies, strengths-based interventions, cultural sensitivity and safety, and trauma-informed service provision.
Above average ability to remain calm, directive, empathetic and solutions-focused in high-stress or emotionally volatile situations.
Ability to empower students and act as a collaborator in supporting their mental health, well-being and academic success.
Ability to be a collegial, collaborative team member within and across the position's home teams and the entire Sask Polytech organization.
Ability to use Microsoft Office suite including: Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc.; Ability to schedule and participate in all functionalities of Zoom meetings.
Awareness of the importance of, and ability to consistently practice, self-care and personal wellness strategies.
