Overview

Are you driven to anticipate risks before they become problems? Do you thrive on creating safe, compliant, and resilient workplaces?

We're looking for a Workplace Risk Specialist to lead proactive risk management strategies that protect people, assets, and operations across our diverse portfolio. In this role, you'll go beyond compliance-you'll design solutions that prevent disruptions, safeguard health and safety, and strengthen emergency preparedness programs.

You'll work closely with internal teams, external contractors, and consultants to identify and mitigate risks that could impact operational continuity. Leveraging your expertise in legislation, corporate Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) programs, and risk-based analysis, you'll deliver practical strategies that make a measurable difference.

How you'll make a difference: You'll help create a sustainable workplace that allows people to thrive.

Where you'll work

In this role, you'll work in our Richmond office five days a week.

What you'll do

  • Lead comprehensive risk assessments across operational, financial, reputational, health, safety, and environmental areas, partnering with senior management to develop mitigation strategies.
  • Design and implement emergency preparedness programs, including response plans, staff exercises, and service recovery strategies to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Develop and oversee compliance programs for permits, inspections, hazardous materials, and workplace safety in alignment with corporate strategies and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze compliance data, interpret trends, and recommend actionable measures to reduce risks and improve resilience.
  • Educate and empower teams through training on safety regulations, prime contractor responsibilities, and risk management best practices.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to manage hazardous materials, coordinate consultants, and ensure environmental responsibility.
  • Conduct site visits across the province as needed, with occasional overnight travel.
  • Consistently models the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.

Is this a good fit for you?

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is strategic and proactive, anticipating risks and implementing preventive measures before issues arise.
  • Thrives in collaborative, in-person environments, building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Is passionate about safety and compliance, committed to creating workplaces where people can operate confidently and securely.
  • Excels at problem-solving under pressure, using data-driven analysis to develop practical, effective solutions.
  • Is adaptable and resilient, able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a forward-thinking approach to risk management.

Your background and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Risk Management, or a related field, plus a professional safety designation (CRSP, ROH, CIH, or CSP).
  • Minimum of 3 years of directly related experience in risk management, program development, or project coordination.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management principles, strategies, and techniques, as well as OHSR/WHMIS regulations and programs.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
