Grief and Supportive Care Counsellor, Community Services

12-Month Contract, Full-Time

Since 1995, Cortellucci Hospice Vaughan, a not-for-profit organization, has been helping people with life-limiting illnesses live fully in comfort and with dignity until they die, while providing support for families, friends, and caregivers. We provide a 12-bed residential hospice as well as a range of community services, including service navigation and case management, grief and family support services, day programs, and complementary therapies and wellness programs.

This role will appeal to a dynamic and experienced regulated health care professional who values hospice palliative care and is eager to support a growing organization and an energetic team. Reporting to the Manager of Community Services, the Grief and Supportive Care Counsellor will provide individual and group counselling to people experiencing grief after a loved one has passed, people living with a life-limiting illness, and caregivers in our community program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide individual and group counselling to clients in the community, in person and/or virtually

· Participate in the development and implementation of strategies to support the expansion of grief services

· Participate in quality improvement activities

· Participate in the Accreditation process

· Support grant-specific activities, when appropriate or aligned to your portfolio

· Participate in Cortellucci Hospice Vaughan events

· Support the residence program, if required

Position Requirements

· University degree in Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, or Occupational Therapy with expertise in hospice palliative care; a master's degree is an asset

· Licensed as a social worker, nurse, occupational therapist, or psychologist in Ontario

· Previous grief counselling experience

· Demonstrated understanding of hospice palliative care and knowledge of Hospice Palliative Care Ontario standards; completion of palliative care education is an asset

· Experience working with an interdisciplinary team, volunteers, and diverse populations

· Strong computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Zoom, etc.)

· Willingness to perform any other duties to ensure that Cortellucci Hospice Vaughan operates in an effective and professional manner

  • Palliative Care Grief Counselling: 2 years (required)

  • Working with Volunteers and Diverse Population: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Certified as a regulated Health Professional (required)
