Your Opportunity

Our Canadian Mining team has an immediate need for a Senior Mechanical Technician to join our team in Sudbury, Ontario. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing and coordinating both 2D and 3D mechanical documents on both large and small-scale projects. As a Mechanical Technician, you will be part of a multi-talented team focused on designing surface and underground facilities and infrastructure in the mining industry. Your duties will involve daily collaboration with other Designers, Engineers, Project Controls, Procurement, Estimating, and Project Managers from our multi-discipline team. You will work to help mentor Junior and Intermediate Mechanical Designers. You will convey design requirements to the team through traditional 2D deliverables and/or BIM 3D models. You will work to develop design concepts, create models, and coordinate designs while considering existing conditions and other discipline requirements. 

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Working with Design Engineers and fellow Mechanical Designers you will be responsible for the complete design and documentation package for mechanical systems and facilities.
  • Produce deliverables as required to fulfill project needs either as an individual contributor or as part of a team of Mechanical Engineers and Designers, dependent upon project size and scope.
  • Mechanical systems include but not limited to: 
    • Bulk material handling equipment for aggregates, mining, minerals, and other related industries.
    • Process and service water, dewatering, compressed air, backfill, concrete and shotcrete infrastructure. 
    • Utilize knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials and other physical sciences to complete deliverables.
  • Work from schematics, sketches, and verbal instructions.
  • Assist other designers with project deliverables. Lead the work of other Junior and Intermediate Mechanical Designers providing guidance and mentorship. 
  • Report project progress and/or issues to Lead Designers or Project Managers.
  • Provide material estimates to support Procurement and Estimating efforts.
  • Occasional field verification trips and shop inspections.
  • Drawing and model reviews ensuring compliance with internal / client CAD standards, and standard geometric drafting principles.   
  • Lead model and drawing review meetings both internally with Stantec's team and externally with clients.
  • Your primary responsibilities will be designing and drafting in 2D and 3D environments.
