We're looking for an experienced Transportation Professional to join us as Manager, Transportation Planning & Engineering, leading our Transportation Department based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The core team is located in Halifax, with additional team members working from our branch offices. This opportunity will appeal to a transportation professional who is ready to take ownership of a growing team of transportation planners and engineers—supporting their development, managing client relationships, and ensuring technical excellence.

In this senior leadership role, you'll guide a talented group of professionals, oversee the successful delivery of transportation projects, and drive the continued growth of our practice. You'll be part of a team delivering transformative transportation projects that enhance mobility, safety, and connectivity across the region—reflecting our commitment to quality and community-focused design. Our Transportation Group takes pride in shaping the province's future infrastructure through landmark initiatives such as the Windsor Street Exchange Reconfiguration, the Mill Cove Ferry Project, and the Highway 104 Twinning—just a few examples of the meaningful work we're leading across the region.

What You'll Do

Lead and Inspire

  • Champion a positive, collaborative, and high-performing culture that reflects CBCL's core values.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop talent to support professional growth and team success.
  • Conduct performance reviews, establish development goals, and foster an environment of continuous learning.

Drive Operational and Financial Success

  • Oversee the department's financial performance — from utilization and sales to profitability and forecasting.
  • Conduct monthly project reviews, identify challenges early, and work with project managers to maintain strong results.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic planning and budgeting to support long-term business growth.

Deliver Quality and Build Relationships

  • Lead transportation projects, ensuring technical quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
  • Strengthen existing client partnerships and identify new opportunities for collaboration.
  • Support proposal development and RFP responses, working with project managers and the VP of Infrastructure to position CBCL for success.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture consistent with CBCL's Safety Program and industry best practices.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering or in Transportation Planning.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in consulting engineering and transportation project delivery.
  • Proven ability to manage, mentor, and motivate multidisciplinary teams while fostering a positive and inclusive culture.
  • Strong understanding of financial performance metrics, forecasting, and resource planning.
  • Skilled at identifying opportunities, managing risk, and contributing to the long-term growth of CBCL's transportation Planning & Engineering practice.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in leading complex transportation projects from concept to completion, meeting quality, safety, and profitability goals.
