Reporting to the Manager, Distance Learning, the Pathway to Adult Secondary School (PASS) Instructor is responsible for instructing online P.A.S.S. courses using a range of instructional styles incorporating adult education principles. Online courses may include English, Social Studies, Math, and Science. This position collaborates with P.A.S.S. staff in the ongoing monitoring and administration of programs including student applications, enrolment, progress and general activity and student learning evaluations.

Other Key Responsibilities Of The Position Include

  • Planning course content and preparing course syllabi;
  • Counselling and tutoring individuals for academic and career development;
  • Supporting and working with part time P.A.S.S. ABE Instructors in each community to support and provide guidance to students; and
  • Creating an online learning environment which is conducive to adult learning.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through the completion of a Bachelor of Education degree with studies in a discipline appropriate to the P.A.S.S. curriculum with two years of experience in the instruction of adult learners. Experience preparing and delivering courses using distance learning tools. Training/experience in the online instruction of adults is required.

Short-listed candidates may undergo a vulnerable sector check as necessitated by the demographics of the learners participating in the program.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in English is required for the position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position. We encourage you to apply if you have equivalent years of education and/or experience equal to the education and experience requirements listed above.

As this is a term position for non-Inuit candidates, current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval.
