Purpose of Position:
The Independent Living Support Program is to promote independence, self-reliance, security, and social inclusion. This is done by assisting a participant to maximize independence in the areas of daily living, such as maintaining a household, laundry, shopping, and baking, preparing meals, transportation for community access, recreational, leisure, volunteer, and work activities.
Support Workers create person-centered programs that offer positive and meaningful experiences, enabling participants to explore and learn within their environment and community. The ILS program is committed to enhancing the quality of life by fostering independence.
Daily Responsibilities:

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

· Maintain the confidentiality regarding the organization and individuals supported.
· Represent the organization professionally in all situations.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
· Ability to perform all physical duties of the job
· Able to lift up to 30lbs (13.60kg) repetitively
· Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract, and reliable transportation.
· Criminal record and Vulnerable sector check required
QUALIFICATIONS
· Completion of a community college or university program in human services, disability support, or equivalent.
· Work or Volunteer experience supporting individuals with Physical and/or intellectual disabilities
· Completion of the 7 core competency training required by the Department of Opportunities and Social Development. (Standard First Aid/CPR, Fire and Life safety, Medication Awareness, Crisis intervention, Positive principles and practices of behavior support, Health and Personal care, and Individualized planning. (We can discuss)
· Effective oral and written communication skills
· Ability to work independently or as part of a team under the direction of the Supervisor, Executive Director, or Designate
