Position Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Director of Operations with senior healthcare operations or hospice leadership experience, strong knowledge of palliative care in Ontario, and demonstrated success leading both clinical and administrative operations. You will make an impact to our team by overseeing day-to-day operations of Dr. Kemp's House, including clinical services, grief and bereavement, finance, administration, facilities, human resources, quality and risk. They will work with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to align Kemp Care Network's (KCN) resources, infrastructure, people, policies, and services, to support both current excellence and future growth.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree in health administration, nursing or other regulated health profession, business, public health, or hospital administration, finance, healthcare, or a related discipline
  • A master's degree in health administration, leadership, business is an asset (ie MBA or MPH)
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years of successful senior leadership experience in health, hospice, palliative care, or community care settings, preferably in a not-for-profit environment
  • Additional training or certification in palliative care, hospice palliative standards, quality improvement, or healthcare leadership (e.g., LEAP, Fundamentals of Palliative Care, or similar) is an asset.

Operational Expertise

  • Demonstrated experience managing or collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including clinical, administrative, and program staff
  • Progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations, hospice or palliative care, hospital, community health, or long‑term care, with experience overseeing both clinical operations and administrative services
  • Demonstrated ability to foster and sustain an engaged, collaborative, and supportive team culture within complex organizational settings
  • Track record of operational leadership, resource allocation, and driving organizational priorities, quality improvement, and compliance
  • Ability to work in partnership with executive leadership (e.g., CEO, ELT) and collaborate across teams to achieve strategic objectives
  • Experience in providing strategic oversight and operational input for budgeting and management of medium to large budgets across multi-funded environments
  • Experience overseeing information technology systems, client data tracking platforms, occupational health and safety programs, and financial management systems
  • Proven ability to interpret financial and operational reports to support effective organizational decision-making
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, organizational, and time management skills
  • Superior verbal and written communication, teambuilding, and presentation abilities

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Organizational Direction

  • Provide strategic input on residential and adult hospice operations to managers, ELT members, and the CEO
  • Establish operational objectives, develop and recommend corporate policies and procedures, oversee implementation and communication, and ensure ongoing alignment with organizational standards and strategic direction
  • Lead internal operational committee structures supporting organizational strategic initiatives and cross-team plans

Team Leadership & Organizational Culture

  • Guide and support clinical and administrative leaders, ensuring alignment with KCN priorities and organizational excellence
  • Develop, motivate, and mentor staff to build a culture of teamwork, learning, inclusion, and excellence
  • Authorize and organize departments and staff positions, and manage resource allocation (material, human, and financial) for all programs and initiatives

Program & Service Delivery

  • Develop client care programs, policies, and procedures, ensuring thorough needs assessment, high-quality service evaluation, and delivery of person-centered care
  • Ensure operational and program financial sustainability through collaboration with finance and the ELT on budgeting, reporting, and financial planning
  • Operational Management & Compliance
  • Oversee the establishment of financial and administrative controls and policy/compliance oversight, with the support of external service providers (legal, accounting, auditors) to ensure operational excellence and regulatory adherence
  • Ensure effective implementation and integration of information and communication technology (ICT) systems (including EMR, core databases, web and telecom systems) to support operational needs and data-driven decision-making
  • Ensure facilities maintenance, environmental safety, and operational readiness across all KCN sites
  • Manage leases, subleases, and premises fit-out according to organizational growth and program needs

External Representation & Sector Engagement

  • Actively participate in external committees, working groups, and regional networks in the hospice and palliative care sector, and contribute to ELT and program leadership meetings to advance KCN's strategic and cross-program work
  • Represent Kemp Care Network and the organization at Ontario Health Team (OHT), Ontario Health (OH), and sector partner tables
  • Represent KCN with partners and stakeholders in negotiations, official functions, and community forums

Leadership & Emergency Support

  • Participate in ELT and program leadership meetings, contributing to KCN's strategic and cross-program work
  • Alternate on-call executive duties with ELT leadership members for after-hours and emergency coveragePost-secondary degree in business, pubic or hospital administration, finance, healthcare administration,or related discipline (MBA or graduate degree considered an asset)
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years of progressive senior leadership in healthcare operations, hospice, palliative care or community care - preferably in a not-for-profit or complex healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams including clinical, administrative, and program staff, fostering collaboration across departments and services.
  • Proven track record in operational leadership, resource allocation, quality improvement and regulatory compliance for healthcare programs.
  • Experience building and sustaining an engaged, collaborative, and supportive tam culture within large organizations.
  • Strong history of partnership with executive leadership (CEO, ELT), driving strategic goals and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strategic oversight and operational input for budget development and management of medium to large budgets in multi-funded or grant-supported environments.
  • Experience oversseing health information technology system

Work Environment:

  • Standard business hours (37.5/week) with flexibility; occasional evenings/weekends as needed
  • In-person presence at KCN's Hamilton campus (4 days/week) is required for visible team and site leadership.
  • Participation in leadership on-call schedule and organizational/community events
