Millbrook First Nation is a Mi'kmaq community located within the town of Millbrook, Nova Scotia, near Truro, with additional reserve lands in Beaver Dam, Sheet Harbour, Dartmouth, and Cole Harbour. This Moment, This Position
The Millbrook Early Education Centre (MEEC) plays an essential role in supporting children's growth, learning, and cultural identity during their earliest years.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the
Early Education Manager
leads a team of educators and support staff in designing and delivering high-quality early childhood programming that meets provincial standards while reflecting the values and traditions of Millbrook First Nation.
This role is both operational and visionary. The Manager will guide day-to-day activities — from curriculum planning and staff development to family engagement and compliance — while also contributing to the Centre's long-term strategy, growth, and culture.
As the leader of the MEEC, you'll model curiosity, empathy, and accountability. You'll champion a collaborative culture that supports staff to bring their best selves to the work, strengthens the connection between home and classroom, and ensures every child feels seen, supported, and celebrated.
How You'll Contribute
Leadership & Culture
- Lead a caring, inclusive, and high-performing team of educators and staff.
- Foster a collaborative culture grounded in community, trust, and continuous learning.
- Coach and develop staff, encouraging creativity, accountability, and professional growth.
- Model integrity, warmth, and care in all interactions with families, staff, and children.
Program & Curriculum Oversight
- Oversee the design and delivery of curriculum that supports holistic child development and aligns with Mi'kmaw culture and values.
- Ensure programs meet or exceed provincial standards for early childhood education.
- Support the teaching team in creating engaging, inclusive, and culturally relevant learning experiences.
- Evaluate and adapt programs to meet evolving community needs.
Operational Management
- Manage the daily operations of the Centre, including scheduling, staffing, and compliance with The Child Day Care Act and regulations.
- Maintain records, reports, and documentation with accuracy and confidentiality.
- Ensure facilities, materials, and supplies support a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and updates for leadership and community stakeholders.
Planning & Strategic Direction
- Contribute to the Centre's long-term planning and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with other departments and agencies to support early childhood language and cultural development.
- Align program goals and policies with the broader vision and strategic direction of Millbrook First Nation.
Community Engagement & Relationships
- Build strong relationships with families, caregivers, and community members.
- Create open channels for communication and feedback between the Centre, parents, and leadership.
- Represent the Centre in regional and community networks that advance early learning and Indigenous education.
What You'll Bring
Education and Experience
- University degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field.
- Early Childhood Education Diploma is considered a strong asset.
- 2–5 years of progressive leadership experience in early childhood education or a related setting.
- Proven ability to lead teams, design curriculum, and manage educational programs.
- Understanding of Mi'kmaw culture, language, and community values.
- Knowledge of educational theory, child development, and provincial early learning regulations.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead through collaboration and empathy.
- Sound judgment, integrity, and discretion in managing sensitive information.

Other Requirements
- Current Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (required upon offer).
- Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and travel as needed.
The Package
Salary:
$70,000 – $80,000. Compensation is based on education, skills and experience.
Benefits & Perks:
Health & Dental coverage, Pension Plan, paid Vacation and Medical days, 2-week paid Holiday Shutdown, observance of Federal and Provincial Holidays, 4 additional Indigenous Holidays, and Summer Fridays.
Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours/week).
