Maibec CanExel is located in East River, Nova Scotia (just outside of Hubbards). The location is 1 minute off Exit 7 from Highway #103, making it an easy commute of approximately 30 minutes from Bayers Lake or Bridgewater.

Maibec CanExel is seeking a Relief 3rd Class Power Engineer to join a dynamic team in East River, Nova Scotia.

Job Purpose:

To safely operate and maintain the Steam Generation plant as a 3rd Class Power Engineer under minimal supervision when covering vacation for four regular shift power engineers and day work on various tasks as assigned by the Power Plant Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Safe and efficient operation of the 2nd Class Steam Generation Plant as the relief power engineer, and all associated equipment as per provincial regulations
  • Complete both minor corrective and planned maintenance activities and any requirements for the steam plan and mill systems as regulated but the applicable Act(s)
  • Actively participate in EHS programs
  • Maintain housekeeping of the assigned areas
  • Participating in improvement projects
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Good problem solving & mechanical abilities is an asset
  • Knowledge of Safety and Environment requirements
  • Basic computer skills
  • No aversion to working in high places or confined spaces
  • Time management, prioritization and multi-tasking skills
  • Good communication, interpersonal and writing skills
  • Ability to read and understand safety rules and regulations

Education & Experience

  • 3rd Class Steam Certificate recognized in province of employment is required
  • May consider a recent graduate if only work hours are required to attain 3rd Class Certificate
  • A combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position is an asset
  • 2nd Class Steam Certificate will attain a higher rate of pay as per the collective agreement for the same position
  • Experience with gas firing or biomass firing boilers is an asset
