Role Description

The Cyber Risk Consultant is a senior-level role and responsible for advanced threat detection, incident response, digital forensics, and SIEM management. The successful candidate will act as an escalation point for complex security events, lead investigations, and provide technical expertise to strengthen SRG's managed security services. There is an expectation of being on call. May include the following responsibilities and other projects or duties as assigned:

SOC Operations & Incident Response

  • Act as Tier 3 escalation point for complex security alerts and incidents.
  • Lead end-to-end incident response activities, including triage, containment, eradication, and recovery.
  • Perform advanced malware analysis, log correlation, and packet analysis to identify root cause and attack vectors.
  • Document incidents with detailed findings, recommendations, and lessons learned.
  • Provide guidance to Tier 1 and Tier 2 SOC analysts during active incidents.

SIEM Management & Engineering

  • Administer, tune, and optimize SIEM platforms to enhance detection and reduce false positives.
  • Develop and maintain detection use cases, correlation rules, dashboards, and custom reports.
  • Integrate new log sources and ensure data integrity and completeness across the SIEM.
  • Collaborate with customers to align SIEM rules and reporting with business and compliance requirements.

Forensics & Threat Hunting

  • Perform digital forensics on compromised hosts, memory, and network artifacts.
  • Conduct proactive threat hunting activities to identify anomalies and potential compromises.
  • Leverage threat intelligence sources to enhance detection rules and hunting strategies.
  • Maintain forensic readiness, including tools, processes, and evidence handling standards.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work directly with customer stakeholders to provide detailed incident updates, forensic reports, and remediation guidance.
  • Mentor junior analysts and contribute to SOC training and playbook development.
  • Support continuous improvement of detection, response, and forensics capabilities within the SOC.
  • Participate in after-action reviews and drive improvements in incident handling processes.
  • Support new customer onboarding

Qualifications

·      Post secondary degree or diploma or relevant work experience.

·      Five or more years of work experience in cyber security.

·      Working knowledge of the Mitre Att&ck Framework

·      Experience in an Operations Center (SOC/NOC) monitoring environment.

·      Expertise working with SIEM technologies (e.g. Splunk, Sumo Logic, Azure Sentinel)

·      Demonstrable knowledge of threats, attacks, logs, operating systems and security technology (firewalls, anti-malware, proxies, etc.)

·      Knowledge and understanding of cyber risks and security issues in cloud-based and on-premises environments.

·      Experience with scripting or automation (Python, PowerShell, etc.) considered an asset.

·      Relevant certifications preferred:
GCFA, GCFE, GCIH, GCIA, GNFA, OSCP, or CISSP

·      Microsoft Cybersecurity Architect (SC-100), Microsoft Security operations analyst associate (SC-200), Microsoft Sentinel Ninja Training an asset
