Role Description

We are currently seeking a Fibre Optic Splicer to join our operations team in a permanent position. This is a full-time on-site role operating out of Scarborough, ON. The Fibre Optic Splicer will be responsible for all facets of fibre splicing including cable preparation, termination, fusion-splicing, testing, and troubleshooting. Daily tasks include handling and using various hand tools and equipment to perform splicing, ensuring connections meet industry standards, and conducting inspections and maintenance on existing fibre optics systems. The role also entails maintaining accurate documentation of work completed and collaborating with other team members to ensure timely project completion.

This role requires a willingness to travel, work a minimum of 40 hours per week, and have a valid driver's license.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Splicing aerial and buried fibre optic networks
  • Testing and troubleshooting fibre optic networks
  • Documenting and reporting on work completed
  • Maintaining project and safety documentation
  • Ensuring all work is clearly labelled

Knowledge and Skills

  • Carry, lift and handle heavy equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to working at heights
  • Self-disciplined, self-motivated and organized
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding atmosphere

Additional Requirements

  • Valid work permit
  • Valid G driver's license
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required

Experience Required

  • 3+ years experience
  • Experience with single fibre splicing and mass fusion splicing
  • Experience using fibre optic testing tools such as OTDR and live fiber detectors
  • Preference given to those with additional experience or FTTX / FTTH project experience
