Fueled by a dedicated workforce, Transport Canada's Aircraft Services Directorate is seeking Training Pilots – Rotary Wing who are looking to work within a federal organization in the National Capital Region. The Aircraft Services Directorate (ASD) is responsible for the provision of aviation services in support of the Canadian Coast Guard operations as well as those of other federal departments and agencies. This position is located at the Aircraft Services' hangar at Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport. Another perk of working here includes free parking for employees

Duties
- Conduct Helicopter flight training (initial and recurrent) on the various helicopters flown by the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) to ensure that ASD or client pilots are qualified.
- Deliver airborne or flight simulator instructions and demonstrations of normal and emergency procedures on different helicopter types.
- Develop, update and deliver ground school, flight simulator lesson plan and other training material to ensure the provision of adequate and relevant training material to the pilots.
- Conduct Pilot Proficiency Check (PPC) and instrument flight check in accordance with the Civil Aviation Regulations (CARs) 702, 703 and 704 as applicable.
- Act as Pilot in Command the CCG helicopters during operational flying, maintenance test flights or ferry flights.
- Identify and recommend changes to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), checklist and training material as required.
Intent of the process
The results of this process will be used to staff an English essential position indeterminately within the National Capital Region.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff identical or similar positions with various language requirements at Transport Canada.

Education:
A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.
The Employer-approved Alternatives To a Secondary School Diploma Are:
- A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
- An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Degree equivalency
Occupational Certification:
- Possession of a valid Canadian Commercial Pilot License - Helicopter Category with a valid Group IV Instrument Rating.
- Possession of a valid Restricted Radio-Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed Aeronautical).
- Possession of a Helicopter Night Rating.
Experience:
- At least 3000 hours of experience as a helicopter pilot including at least 2000 hours as Pilot-in-Command in a variety of turbine powered helicopters.
- At least 500 hours of experience on multi-engine helicopters including at least 200 hours as Pilot-in-Command.
- At least 200 hours of IFR experience on helicopters including at least 100 hours in actual instrument conditions.
- Experience as a training pilot.
- Experience in vertical reference and other external load operations.
- Experience in developing and delivering classroom training.

- Knowledge of the Canadian Aviation Regulations and Standards governing the operations of VFR and IFR helicopters operations.
- Knowledge of teaching methods employed in helicopter training.
- Knowledge of helicopters aerodynamics.

Asset:
OCCUPATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a valid Canadian Airline Transport License - Helicopter (ATPL-H).
- Possession of a Helicopter Instructor Rating.
- Possession of one or more of the following endorsements: B429 or BH41.
Experience:
- Recent* experience as a Certified Type A IFR TC Approved Check Pilot (ACP)
- "Recent" is defined as within the last 5 years
- Experience as a training pilot in helicopter Full Flight Simulators (FFS)
- Experience with Night Vision Goggle (NVG) equipment.
- Experience in shipboard operations.
Operational Requirements:
- Willing and able to successfully complete of a Transport Canada Aircraft Services sponsored Helicopter Underwater Emergency Egress Training (HUET) within 6 months of employment.
- Willing and able to successfully complete requirements associated with the issuance of a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC).
