About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a Business Development Manager - Engineering and Oilsands to jointly support our Engineering Division, our Midstream and Mining Division, and our Heavy Oil Division. Reporting to the President of Engineering, this position will be based in the Calgary office, but will require travel to Edmonton, Fort McMurray, and various client sites, 20 – 40% travel.

Duties/Responsibilities

Reporting to the President of Engineering, the Technical Sales Rep will be part of a dynamic team responsible for marketing our construction services to prospective oil & gas clients, while building our revenue stream for our internal engineering group.

  • Sell Engineering services to existing and prospective Oilsands, Midstream, and Mining clients in AB and BC
  • Sell Construction (GC) and EPC services to Oilsands clients in AB
  • Be a professional ambassador of OCL, representing the company at various industry and networking events
  • Proactively seek and maintain knowledge of client activities and developments in order to harness revenue opportunities
  • Lead sales presentations
  • Collaborate with Estimating, Project Management, and various groups during the bid proposal process
  • Proactively seek new clients, with a focus on increasing market share
  • Achieve sales, product, and margin goals acceptable to management expectations
  • Maintain professionalism, be personable and committed to value-added relationships
  • Act as a liaison with client subject matter experts (SME's)

Education/Skills/Qualifications

  • Technical experience in either engineering, construction, maintenance, or EPC projects
  • Technical diploma or degree an asset
  • Previous oilsands experience an asset
  • Relevant professional network an asset
  • 10+ years industry experience
  • Experience in the sale & bid process is an asset
  • Ability to review and understand technical documents, including project execution plans, specification, and design documents
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of engineering principles and applications to effectively and efficiently sell solutions
  • Strong negotiation skills while maintaining strategic relationships
  • Fluent with sales techniques and can actively apply skills such as consultative selling, pipeline management, upselling, and cross-selling
  • Knowledge of construction techniques, skills and ability to work with onsite personnel in varying positions
  • Business Acumen – understanding ROI, budget awareness, risk, and contractual terms
