Position Summary

The Employment Advisor delivers one-to-one employment counselling and case management for displaced workers, coordinates short-term certifications and workshops (employability & digital literacy), supports work placements, and engages local employers so participants gain skills and sustained employment. The role also collects outcomes data and supports the development of a Community Workforce Development Plan, reporting and employer roundtables.

Start Date will be November 10, 2025

Key Responsibilities

Client service & case management

  • Conduct intakes and comprehensive needs assessments; develop Employment Action Plans with clear goals, timelines, and supports.
  • Provide ongoing check-ins, mentoring, and service navigation (e.g., living supports, travel assistance, referral to wraparound services).
  • Prepare clients for employment with resume/cover letter coaching, job search strategy, and interview practice; facilitate employability workshops.
  • Coordinate participant access to laptops and digital literacy training; troubleshoot basic tech barriers.

Training & work exposure

  • Book and track short-term safety/industry certifications based on counselling assessments; liaise with training providers (e.g., Class 1 MELT / Class 3 cohorts as applicable).
  • Match participants to employer-led training, work experiences, or placements; monitor fit, progress, and retention.

Employer & community engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with local employers; identify hiring needs and skills gaps.
  • Support employer advisory groups, focus groups, engagement sessions, and roundtables; gather feedback to refine services and the CWDP.

Data, evaluation & reporting

  • Maintain accurate case notes and documentation, track certifications, workshops, placements, and outcomes.
  • Administer monthly/phase-end participant surveys; compile qualitative and quantitative insights for program improvements and required reports (interim and final CWDP reports).

Equity, culture & safety

  • Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed, and strengths-based service, with sensitivity to Indigenous participants, rural realities, and workers affected by mass layoff.
  • Follow organizational policies for privacy, OH&S, and respectful workplace.

Qualifications

  • Diploma/degree in Social Work, Human Services, Career Development, Adult Ed, HR, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 2–4+ years' experience in employment counselling/case management, workforce development, or related community services.
  • Demonstrated success working with job seekers with diverse barriers (e.g., industry transition, rural/remote, digital literacy, transportation, housing).
  • Knowledge of regional labour market and employer engagement practices.
  • Facilitation skills for workshops (employability, digital upskilling).
  • Strong documentation, data tracking, and outcomes reporting habits.
  • Proficient with MS Office/Google Workspace; comfortable onboarding participants to basic digital tools.
  • Proficient with Apple products including MacBooks and iPhones.
  • Clear criminal record/vulnerable sector check.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence and reliable vehicle; travel required.

Work Conditions

  • Combination of office, community, and employer site visits; occasional evening sessions for workshops/roundtables.
  • Mileage reimbursed per policy; safety protocols followed during travel and outreach.

Success Measures

  • Caseload quality: timely Employment Action Plans; consistent check-ins; documented progress.
  • Service completion: high participation in employability & digital literacy workshops; completions of short-term certifications and other identified training.
  • Employment outcomes: placements and job start; retention at 13+ weeks where applicable.
  • Employer engagement: active relationships, participation in advisory/focus groups/roundtables, and quality of feedback feeding into the CWDP.
  • Data & reporting: on-time, accurate surveys and outcome reports contributing to interim/final CWDP deliverables.
