Job Role-Sub-System Engineer (SSE) – Propulsion
Job Location- St. Bruno, Canada
Job Description:
A Sub-System Engineer (SSE) for Propulsion is responsible for the design, integration, and validation of propulsion systems for trains. They ensure the system's functionality, performance, and safety requirements are met and integrated seamlessly with other vehicle subsystems. This is a critical role, as propulsion systems are safety-critical components subject to strict regulations.
Potential Work Location: St. Bruno, Canada
Duration: 12 months
Responsibilities:
- Requirements management: Translate customer and internal train-level requirements into detailed subsystem designs for propulsion and air supply, including defining functional and performance specifications.
- Supplier management: Write technical purchasing specifications and manage the technical relationship with external suppliers of propulsion components, ensuring they meet project quality, cost, and delivery (QCD) commitments.
- Interface management: Lead the integration of the propulsion subsystem with other train subsystems, managing both mechanical and electrical interfaces and coordinating with engineering teams for consistency across system specifications.
- Validation and verification (V&V): Supervise validation activities at both supplier and train levels, including design reviews, testing, and ensuring final integrated system compliance with performance and safety standards.
- Issue resolution: Address and resolve technical issues related to propulsion systems arising during design, production, or operation.
- Documentation and configuration: Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, such as interface control documents and specifications; manage change control and configuration throughout the project lifecycle.
- Safety and reliability: Ensure safety and dependability requirements are met, conduct Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), and support safety analyses with the RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety) team.
- Lifecycle support: Provide technical support for the propulsion subsystem across its lifecycle, including sourcing, production, and maintenance phases.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Automobile, Production, or Systems Engineering).
- Experience in railway systems engineering, specifically with rolling stock components such as propulsion systems.
- Familiarity with railway-specific processes, including validation and verification activities.
- Knowledge of relevant tools such as MS Office and DOORs for requirements management.
- Strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience working in cross-functional teams.
