The Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement Infrastructure Planning and Priorities Branch is recruiting one dynamic and motivated individual for a term position to join the Asset Management team as an Assessment Engineer, focusing on Accessibility Assessments.

The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to identifying, removing, and preventing accessibility barriers for individuals who work at or access government facilities, programs, and services. As part of this commitment, the government introduced the Accessible Saskatchewan Act, which came into force on December 3, 2023. The Act requires the provincial government to publicly post an accessibility plan to remove and prevent accessibility barriers for persons with disabilities.

In order to comply with the Accessible Saskatchewan Act, the Asset Management team administers Accessibility Assessments for all Government Owned Facilities, which include Correctional, Post Secondary Educational, Office, Operations, and Justice Facilities.

These audits will help to identify accessibility barriers and actions that can be taken to remove physical barriers in government buildings.

As part of the Asset Management team, the successful candidate will have the confidence and experience to conduct Accessibility Assessments. This role will involve a mix of field and office time, with time split between travelling to rural and urban sites, collecting data on assessments, and writing reports based on the data.

Task List:

Tasks that will be required by the successful applicant may include:

Accessibility Assessments:

  • Conduct accessibility assessments on various facility types across the province
  • Write and review accessibility assessment reports
  • Critically analyze facility deficiencies and make recommendations on renovations to achieve minimum accessibility standards
  • Communicate data findings to technical and non-technical audiences

Requirements:

A post-secondary degree or diploma is not necessarily required to apply for this job, however, education/certification in the following fields would be considered an asset:

  • Civil, Structural, Architectural, or Building Engineer;
  • Applied Science Technologist (AScT) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) in Building, Architecture, or Civil Engineering;
  • Journeyman Certificate of Qualification in in a designated trade that is related to building construction;
  • Class 1, 2, or 3 Building Official;
  • Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification.

This position will provide on-the-job training, however, knowledge of the following is an asset:

  • Accessibility Assessments in accordance with CSAB651-18;
  • Facility Condition Assessments (FCAs) and/or Property Condition Assessments (PCAs);
  • National Building Code of Canada;
  • Buildings design, construction and operations;
  • Facilities maintenance and project planning;
  • Ability to understand construction drawings;
  • Ability to understand accessibility acts and regulations;
