Calgary AB TH V, Canada Westside Regional Recreation Society Full time $8,000 - $16,000 per year

Climbing Wall Volunteers aid with general duties associated with the Westside climbing wall, including belaying patrons during open climbing times and assisting instructors in climbing programs for children 5-12Y.

Responsibilities:

  • Arrive on time and ready for shift wearing proper uniform.
  • Be aware of the environment and have appropriate safety awareness and judgement.
  • Belay patrons in a safe and controlled way.
  • Welcome participants and customers as they enter the space or program.
  • Actively participate in all program activities and interact positively with climbers of all ages.
  • Providing assistance to participants in developing and practicing new skills.
  • Help patrons in and out of harnesses as assigned by the climbing wall staff.
  • Assist the staff member(s) in making the climbing wall a safe and fun environment during both open and program times.
  • Set up and put away equipment such as harnesses, carabineers, etc.
  • Assist with cleaning the space and supplies.
  • Be helpful and courteous to staff and customers – direct patrons to the front desk if they have any questions.
  • Be aware of all safety and emergency procedures.
  • Willing and adaptable to learning new processes and following procedures.
  • Regularly check messages and maintain communication with supervisors.
  • Be responsible for logging hours on appropriate time sheets.
  • Climb the wall during non-busy times to practice skills and become familiar with route layouts.
  • Be enthusiastic and welcoming

Work Term:

  • September – June.
  • Evenings and weekends.
  • 2 shifts/week. Shifts are 2-3 hours long.

Qualifications/ Skills Required:

  • Between 13 and 17 years of age.
  • Completion of minimum of Emergency First Aid with CPR C or Bronze Medallion.
  • Completion of Volunteer Training – Provided by Westside.
  • Completion of Westside Belay Test.
