Project Overview
We are building a cutting-edge platform to fully automate the production of customized goods via 3D printing. We are seeking a highly motivated and specialized Full-Stack Automation Engineer to build the core intelligence and financial oversight of this system. This role involves creating an end-to-end digital manufacturing workflow, from order placement to final print, including real-time tracking of costs and profits.
The ideal candidate will not just be a developer, but a true "Maker" with significant personal experience in 3D printing who understands the process from CAD file to final part, and the economics of running a print operation.
Core Responsibilities
As the lead engineer on this project, you will be responsible for the full-stack architecture and implementation across three main areas:
1. E-commerce & Core Automation )
- Develop robust, scalable backend services using to monitor for new orders across Shopify, Amazon (Selling Partner API), and Etsy.
- Implement secure API integrations to ingest order data, customer customizations, and shipping details.
- Build data pipelines using Python to preprocess order inputs for the Machine Learning model.
2. Inventory & Profit Management (Backend Business Logic)
- Design and implement a robust database schema to act as the Inventory Tracker, monitoring stock levels of various filaments (by type, color, weight/length) and other raw materials.
- Develop Profit Management logic in the backend to automatically calculate:
- Cost of Goods Sold (COGS): Based on the exact amount of filament consumed for a print (from ML-optimized slicer data) and fixed costs.
- Gross Profit: By subtracting COGS from the sales price retrieved from the e-commerce order.
- Ensure inventory levels are decremented automatically upon order fulfillment.
3. Front-End Interface & Analytics (React)
- Develop a clean, highly responsive single-page application (SPA) using React to serve as the main control and monitoring dashboard.
- Implement real-time visualizations for inventory levels, print queue status, and core Profitability Metrics (e.g., profit per order, material consumption rates).
- Design an intuitive interface for manual inventory adjustments and viewing historical profit reports.
Required Skills & Qualifications
*RECENT GRADUATES ONLY*

- Database & Business Logic: Strong experience in designing scalable database schemas (SQL/NoSQL) and implementing complex financial/inventory management logic.
- E-commerce APIs: Proven, hands-on experience integrating with and managing data from Shopify, Amazon, and/or Etsy APIs/Webhooks.
- Automation/ML: Strong proficiency with Python for scripting, data transformation, and integrating Machine Learning libraries.
Great to have:
- 3D Printing Automation: Deep functional knowledge of the Additive Manufacturing workflow (e.g., slicing, G-code, toolpath generation).
- Machine Learning Application: Demonstrated ability to apply ML or robust rule-based logic to solve industrial/manufacturing problems (e.g., predicting print time/material use).
- Portfolio of Personal Projects: Evidence of complex personal projects, particularly those involving software, automation, or 3D printing that showcase a passion for the craft and a deep understanding of its economics.
