Overview
La Maison du Kouign-Amann is one of Ottawa's leading French bakeries. We are seeking a talented and passionate Pastry Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team. The successful candidate will have considerable experience and background in pastries, baking and food preparation, with a keen eye for detail and a love for creating delicious pastries and desserts. The candidate will also need at least three (3) years of bakery or kitchen management experience. This position offers an exciting opportunity to showcase your culinary skills in a dynamic environment, and in an essential role in delivering high-quality baked goods that meet our bakery's standards and delight our customers.
Duties
- Prepare and bake a variety of pastries, cakes, and desserts according to established recipes.
- Decorate cakes and pastries, ensuring presentation meets La Maison K's highest standards of quality and consistency.
- Assist in the overall food preparation process, including measuring ingredients and mixing doughs.
- Operate baking equipment such as ovens and mixers.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, adhering to food safety regulations.
- Package baked goods for service or sale, ensuring freshness and quality.
- Depending on experience, take responsibility for specific processes and management of people and production.
- Collaborate with other kitchen team members to ensure efficient workflow during busy service periods.
- Provide excellent customer service by engaging with guests when necessary, sharing knowledge about pastry offerings.
Experience
- Proven experience in pastry arts, baking, or culinary roles within the food industry, including restaurant or catering experience. At least 2-5 years as a Pastry Chef/Sous Chef within the bakery industry is required.
- Considerable experience (at least 3 years) managing kitchen staff.
- Strong cake decorating skills along with proficiency in food presentation techniques. Excellent baking skills with knowledge of various pastry techniques and cake decorating.
- Familiarity with food safety practices and kitchen hygiene standards.
- Clear and proven ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment while maintaining high-quality standards and attention to detail.
- Skilled in food production, preparation, and packaging of baked goods.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
- Culinary degree or equivalent professional experience.
- A passion for culinary arts and a desire to continuously learn and improve skills in the kitchen.
