About the Opportunity

LDMLFN is seeking a
full-time Director of Intergovernmental Affairs and Strategic Partnerships
, based in
Thunder Bay, ON.
For the right candidate, a remote arrangement within Canada may be considered, with the requirement to travel to site at least one week per month. This role follows a
4-day workweek
schedule.

In this senior leadership role, you will lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of high-impact projects that advance the Nation's strategic vision. You will play a key role in infrastructure development, governance reform, intergovernmental negotiations, and transformative funding agreements, ensuring initiatives align with the Nation's long-term priorities and cultural values.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Translating the Nation's long-term vision and Council priorities into coordinated strategies and initiatives
  • Leading the planning, execution, and oversight of major infrastructure and strategic development projects
  • Overseeing legal claims, disputes, and rights-based negotiations to reinforce sovereignty
  • Representing the Nation in negotiations with federal, provincial, and municipal governments
  • Conducting feasibility studies, risk assessments, and developing partnership agreements
  • Aligning and coordinating the work of departments to integrate strategic initiatives into operational plans
  • Developing policies and governance frameworks that strengthen self-determination
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with governments, industry, and institutional partners
  • Identifying organizational capacity gaps and mentoring staff to strengthen execution
  • Tracking progress of initiatives using performance indicators and presenting updates to leadership
  • Scanning for funding streams, partnerships, and opportunities that advance prosperity

About You

To qualify, you will need a
bachelor's degree in political science, public administration, law, business,
or a related field. A
minimum of 15 years of progressive experience
in strategic planning, governance reform, intergovernmental negotiations, and major project development will also be essential.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Advanced degree (MBA, MPA, JD) or professional certification
  • Experience with Indigenous governance, rights-based negotiations, or legal claims
  • Skilled negotiation ability with strong political, legal, and organizational awareness
  • Proven track record of leading multi-stakeholder, high-impact projects
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
