The AIBC is seeking a Manager, People Operations to join our hardworking and motivated People Operations department. Reporting to the Director, People Operations, this permanent, full-time position is ideal for human resource generalists with an interest in strategic development of people initiatives, hands-on project delivery, team management and continuous improvement, and an interest in professional regulation and working in the public interest.
About Us
The AIBC is a professional regulator with the mandate to regulate the profession of architecture in British Columbia in the interest of the public. The AIBC was established in 1920 by provincial statute, and since 2023, has governed the profession under the authority of the Professional Governance Act. The AIBC provides flexible working arrangements and has adopted a hybrid working environment where most staff split their time between the AIBC offices and working remotely. Our dog-friendly office is located in a heritage building in downtown Vancouver, and near a variety of excellent cultural, restaurant and commuter options.
About the Role
With strategic oversight and guidance from the Director, People Operations, and as a member of the management team, this position manages the People Operations department, the organization's human resources activities, the Volunteer program, office operations and facilities, and change management initiatives, to support efficient people operations at the AIBC.
The core responsibilities include:
- Weaving together organizational mission, values and needs to deliver effective people operations programs, and fantastic people experiences for AIBC staff and volunteers
- Optimizing programs and policies, systems, metrics and processes across people operations, to support organizational performance and facilitate strong team engagement
- Managing the full employee lifecycle from start to finish including recruitment, performance management, development, retention, and recognition
- Managing the AIBC volunteer program, in close collaboration with Staff Representatives, including recruitment, performance, development and recognition of volunteers
- Managing AIBC office operations, IT initiatives, facilities-related activities and related procurement to deliver a productive workplace for all staff
- Advancing training and development, performance planning and management, safety and health programs, and team engagement initiatives and events
- Ensuring compliance with employment, work safety and privacy legislation and best practices
- Championing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at the AIBC and fostering a positive, productive, welcoming, healthy and safe workplace for all staff and volunteers
About You
We are looking for the right, motivated candidate who is eager to take their career to the next level. If you are an experienced human resources leader; are passionate about working with people, and enjoy a balance of strategic, project and hands on work; and are looking for an opportunity to grow as part of a collaborative team, this role is for you
Specifically, we are looking for a professional with:
- A university degree in a relevant field; or a diploma in Human Resources from a recognized post-secondary institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation
- 5+ years of HR experience and/or experience working in a similar role and capacity
- Experience in organizational needs analysis, change management, optimizing technology and business processes to drive efficiency
- Experience in program creation and delivery, HR project management, policy work and implementation of standard operating procedures
- HRIS and/or systems implementation experience is considered an asset
- Affinity for building connections, trust and shared meaning with diverse individuals and groups
- Sound judgment, and ability to act with tact when dealing with sensitive or confidential matters
- Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
- Self-starter, with strong organizational skills, solutions-focus and ability to work with a high level of accuracy
- Knowledge of, or experience in, the regulatory sector is considered an asset
This position will be offered a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package, including four weeks paid vacation, Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP), extended health coverage, membership in the Public Service Pension Plan, and a subsidized transit pass. The starting annual salary range for this position is $96,000 - $120,000. The actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience, and internal parity.
