From robotics integration to automation projects, this engineer develops high-impact systems that improve productivity, strengthen reliability, and accelerate our continuous-improvement culture. Working closely with Tool & Die, Maintenance, Production, and Quality, the role is central to designing tools, fixtures, stamping dies, forming equipment, and automated processes that support our commitment to high-precision manufacturing. This is an opportunity to shape meaningful technical change, influence strategic priorities, and contribute to an organization that values innovation, collaboration, and engineering craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create detailed 3D and 2D designs in SolidWorks for mechanical, mechatronic, robotic, and automated systems.
- Apply mechanical and mechatronics engineering principles to develop reliable tooling, fixtures, and process-automation solutions.
- Integrate hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, sensor, and control components into mechanical and electromechanical designs.
- Conduct tolerance analyses, GD&T evaluations, and dimensional stack-ups to validate design accuracy.
- Select appropriate materials and define heat-treatment processes, coatings, and surface finishes for tooling and fixtures.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure manufacturability, quality, and adherence to timelines.
- Provide hands-on technical support to resolve mechanical, mechatronics, or performance issues in production environments.
- Identify automation opportunities that reduce setup time, increase throughput, improve safety, and eliminate waste.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, DFM, and value-engineering principles to new and revised tooling or automation projects.
- Develop automation improvements using robotics, sensors, actuators, motion systems, and control components.
- Participate in Kaizen, A3, and other continuous-improvement initiatives focused on automation and process reliability.
- Incorporate PLCs, HMIs, valves, sensors, and electromechanical devices into system designs.
- Lead design reviews, technical meetings, and supplier alignment sessions.
- Partner with Tooling and Die, Automation, Maintenance, Production, and Quality to ensure designs meet operational needs.
- Deliver engineering solutions that support ECL's strategic pillars including productivity, innovation, reliability, and operational excellence.
- Develop tooling and automation improvements that reduce cost, extend tooling life, and enhance process capability.
Knowledge:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or mechatronics Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical and/or mechatronics design, tooling, and automation systems
- Mechanical and mechatronics engineering principles including robotics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and control systems.
- Stamping, press operations, machining, and assembly processes.
- Materials science such as heat treatment, coatings, and surface-finish specifications.
- GD&T practices, tolerance analysis, and dimensional study methods.
- PLCs, HMIs, sensors, actuators, valves, and core industrial control circuitry.
- Lean Manufacturing and Design for Manufacturability concepts.
- SolidWorks and AutoCAD for complex 2D and 3D modelling.
Skills
- Designing robust tooling, fixtures, electromechanical systems, and automated processes using SolidWorks.
- Conducting GD&T evaluations, tolerance stack-ups, and dimensional validation.
- Integrating mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and robotic components into engineered systems.
- Managing engineering projects through planning, design reviews, supplier coordination, and implementation.
- Preparing clear engineering documentation, drawings, and revision packages that align with quality standards.
- Investigating technical issues with a structured, analytical approach that supports production needs.
- Collaborating with suppliers and cross-functional teams to move designs from concept to production.
- Applying Lean and value-engineering practices to improve reliability, throughput, and cost efficiency.
Abilities
- Coordinating multiple projects at once while balancing design work, troubleshooting, and production support.
- Prioritizing tasks and timelines effectively to meet shifting operational demands.
- Guiding cross-functional discussions and technical meetings to achieve alignment on project objectives.
- Translating complex engineering challenges into practical, manufacturable solutions.
- Supporting a fast-paced manufacturing environment with hands-on troubleshooting.
- Communicating design intent and technical requirements clearly to internal teams and external partners.
- Staying adaptable and proactive when project scopes, timelines, or operational requirements evolve.
Working Conditions
- Monday to Friday, 8AM-5PM
- Onsite role with a mix of office-based design work and hands-on time on the production floor.
- Regular exposure to manufacturing equipment, automation systems, and tooling operations.
- PPE required when on the shop floor including safety eyewear, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear.
- Periods of standing, walking, and working around machinery.
- Occasional lifting of tools, fixtures, or components.
- Deadlines and priorities may shift based on production needs or project timelines.
- Limited travel to suppliers or vendors may be required.
