Description

Job Overview:

The Principal Mechanical and Rotating Equipment Tech Services Specialist is responsible for interpreting internal or external business issues and recommending best practices. They will be tasked with solving complex Tech Services-related problems and will work independently with minimal guidance. The Principal Tech Services Specialist may be responsible for leading functional teams or projects and is regarded as a specialist in Tech Services. As such, they must have in-depth expertise in Tech Services as well as broad knowledge of the Tech Services discipline within the Mechanical and Rotating equipment functions.

Compensation ranges between 124,624.56 CAD - 162,713.75 CAD. In addition, McDermott Energy Solutions Canada offers a competitive total rewards package for supporting the project.

Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Construction Manager in all issues pertaining to all site-related activities, as directed
  • Keep the Construction Manager properly informed of the Engineering and Construction changes and their resolutions
  • Assist on the preparation of Site Change Orders
  • Coordinate with the Completions Manager on discipline activities
  • Coordinate with Site QA / QC Manager on final inspection and punch list
  • Facilitate preparation of drawings for special construction equipment, scaffolds, workstations, and construction aids
  • Arrange for Procurement, Fabrication, and Installation of the required items
  • Manage all correspondence concerning questions or issues between Engineering and Construction through a Request for Information (RFI) system for document tracking and control
  • Close out all RFIs and incorporate into the turnover systems for care and custody to the Client
  • Conduct weekly planning meetings with Subcontractors to determine work to be executed in the upcoming three (3) weeks
  • Coordinate installation, alignment, and commissioning activities for rotating equipment, including pumps and compressors, ensuring compliance with project specifications and vendor requirements
  • Assist supervision and subcontractors in executing final alignment procedures for rotating equipment, ensuring tolerances meet OEM and industry standards
  • Interface with vendors and technical specialists to resolve issues related to rotating equipment, including troubleshooting, inspections, and commissioning support
  • Review and interpret engineering documentation, including datasheets, drawings, and procedures, with specific focus on API 610 (centrifugal pumps), API 617 (centrifugal compressors), and ASME B31.3 (Process Piping)
  • Support the development and execution of Construction Execution Plans that include rotating equipment milestones, vendor coordination, and mechanical completion activities
  • Monitor rotating equipment installation progress and ensure alignment with the overall construction schedule and quality standards
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of design techniques and application of standards, codes, and guidelines
  • Familiar with all Piping Sub-Disciplines including Design and Modelling, Pipe Stress & Support, Piping Material Engineering, and MTO activities and deliverables
  • Conversant with international codes and standards like ANSI, ASME, API, BS, NFPA, etc.
  • Familiar with SP3D / E3D / Navisworks  
  • Familiar with stick-built and modularization approach  
  • Approximately seven-ten years of experience in Construction
  • Ability to promote and drive work process and culture change on company's projects
  • Leadership skills
  • Advanced understanding of construction sequencing and construction techniques
  • A Self-Confident Team Player who is comfortable dealing with people at all levels in the organization
  • Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to meet deadlines, troubleshoot, and resolve issues
  • Respected for uncompromising integrity, work ethic, and professionalism
  • Energetic with a positive and enthusiastic disposition, possessing a can-do attitude
  • Project-focused, values-oriented, and results-driven
  • Advanced MS Office skills, specifically with Excel and Access
