Summary
Responsibilities
Performs a variety of duties related to the inspection, preventative maintenance, service and repair of Coast Mountain Bus Company's fire protection equipment and systems. Conducts fire inspections of CMBC locations to ensure proper fire fighting equipment is installed and to identify unsafe conditions and fire hazards. Prepares and delivers training to new and existing employees in the use of fire equipment and in methods of dealing with various fires. Assists in conducting annual preventative fire drills for all CMBC properties. Liaises with suppliers' representatives to keep current in the latest fire protection technology and to provide an immediate source of equipment supply in case of emergency situations. Assists contractors while on site. Maintains computer records' tracking and coordinates the maintenance and tracking of all fire equipment including its service history. Advises non-departmental maintenance and repair personnel regarding faulty or failed devices. Inputs data and creates reports on activities and equipment through the use of spreadsheets. Attends training courses required to maintain ASTT BC Certification and courses concerning new fire protection equipment and systems. Provides support to other CMBC departmental and contractor maintenance work/schedules.
Duties And Responsibilities
Performs a variety of duties related to the inspection, preventative maintenance, service, and repair of Coast Mountain Bus Company's fire protection equipment (fire extinguishers, fire hoses and fire hydrants) and systems (sprinklers, emergency lights, fire alarms, special suppression systems and standpipes) located at various CMBC facilities, fleet revenue and non-revenue vehicles, SeaBus, SkyTrain and HandyDart and Security.
Conducts fire inspections of all CMBC locations to ensure proper fire fighting equipment is installed and to identify unsafe conditions and fire hazards; submits associated reports to the Work Leader with findings and recommendations. Works with Safety Committees to discuss approval of new procedures relating to fire safety. Liaises with all municipal Fire Departments to ensure they are familiar with emergency procedures involving all bus, SeaBus and Skytrain fires. Orients Fire Departments on new and renovated facilities to ensure fire safety measures are in place and adhered to.
Prepares and delivers training to new and existing employees including Transit/Community Shuttle Operators, maintenance, Seabus, Security, and Skytrain employees in the use of fire equipment and in methods of dealing with various fires. This includes classroom training using Power Point and other teaching aids and "hands on" demonstrations with "Live Fire" simulators.
Assists in conducting annual preventative fire drills by reviewing performance, making recommendations, developing solutions, and preparing reports. Makes recommendations for locations of emergency signage related to the emergency plan.
Liaises with suppliers' representatives to keep current in the latest fire protection technology and to provide an immediate source of equipment supply in case of emergency situations.
Maintains computer records' tracking and coordinates the maintenance and tracking of all fire equipment, including its service history. Ensures availability of an adequate stock of core equipment and replacement parts and supplies, ordering items from suppliers when stock is low. Ensures adherence to all scheduled maintenance requirements including weekly, monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, annual, 5-year, 6-year and 12-year inspections.
Advises non-departmental maintenance and repair personnel regarding faulty or failed devices, troubleshoots and coordinates repairs including the implementation of alternate emergency procedures, and conducts retest upon repair/replacement to put the system back online.
Inputs data and creates reports on activities and equipment using spreadsheets.
Attends training courses required to maintain ASTT BC Certification and courses concerning new fire protection equipment, instruments, methods, etc. Attends training for the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG).
Provides support to other CMBC departmental and contractor maintenance work/schedules such as emergency generator testing provide fire watch where needed and liaise with security personnel over fire alarm/ security alarm interactions.
Performs related duties as assigned, such being items of a minor nature that do not affect the value of the job.
Education
Qualifications
Requires successful completion of the ASTT Certification and BCIT (or equivalent) courses for all disciplines: Fire Alarm Systems, Water Based Fire Protection Systems, Special Suppression Systems, Emergency Lighting, Fire Extinguishers as well as Transportation of Dangerous Goods training. Requires training in standard office applications including word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software.
Experience
Requires two- and six-months years (2 1/2 years) previous experience in a position specializing in fire prevention in an industrial setting with experience in providing basic firefighting training. A further period of up to 6 months in the job is required to become familiar with the various facilities and types of fire protection equipment in use, safety regulations pertaining to SkyTrain, substations, rectifier station access, servicing requirements, equipment testing procedures, etc.
Require valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and Driver's Abstract

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Rate of Pay
Salary $6, $7,617.85 per month (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).
