About the Role

The PCB Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling and soldering components of electrical and electronic equipment with precision and attention to detail. This role involves using soldering tools to join components, inspecting finished products for quality, and ensuring compliance with technical specifications. The Technician must understand PCB assembly processes, interpret technical diagrams, and maintain a safe and efficient work environment.

Position Details

Status: 3-Month Contract

Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm

Location: Calgary, AB (NE Area)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand PCB assembly processes, including the installation sequence of thru-hole components.
  • Assemble and solder electronic components onto circuit boards and other equipment per specifications and quality standards.
  • Inspect finished products for soldering defects or quality issues, performing rework or repairs as needed.
  • Operate and maintain soldering equipment, including irons, hot air guns, solder pots, and soldering stations.
  • Prepare soldering tools by cleaning, fluxing, and tinning soldering tips for optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with the production team to troubleshoot and resolve soldering-related issues.
  • Adhere to safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment and prevent accidents.

Required Abilities, Knowledge, Experience

  • Proficiency in soldering techniques, including through-hole, SMT, and rework/reflow soldering.
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly instructions, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and dexterity for precise handling of small components.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality in soldering work.
  • Knowledge of soldering materials, fluxes, and tools, and their appropriate use.
  • Familiarity with soldering equipment and the ability to operate and maintain it effectively.
  • Basic understanding of electronic components and their functions.
  • Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve soldering issues.
  • Effective communication skills for team collaboration and process feedback.
  • Strong time management skills to meet production deadlines and prioritize tasks.
