ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the PATH (Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope) Program Coordinator, the Child and Family Worker is responsible for providing flexible, immediate and short-term, family focused clinical and case management support. The goal of this program is to strengthen families who have experienced recent events in their lives that have been experienced as destabilizing. As a member of the PATH team, the Child and Family Worker will provide support to families to enhance functioning using parent coaching, modeling, and problem solving to improve their daily lives. The Child and Family Workers are required to work in the family home, community and/or office locations.

Employment Status: Permanent, Full-Time

Salary Range: $58,294 to $61,842

Locations: Aurora Office, this position will require travel within York Region to provide services to clients in their home, community, or in schools.

Hours of Work: Thirty-five (35) hours per week, including two evenings per week.

A LOOK AT YOUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Navigate complex client needs while building, maintaining and nurturing key stakeholder relationships within the child welfare, education and hospital sectors in York Region.
  • Manage complex and challenging situations within families, using a range of engagement and assessment strategies while working towards stabilization goals.
  • Utilize risk assessment strategies and implement suicide prevention and/or intervention techniques.
  • Implement stabilization plans with children/youth and their families/caregivers using a client centered, strength-based and trauma informed approach.
  • Ability to use a variety of systemic and evidence-based/informed approaches to enhance parent/family and child/youth interactions and functioning at home, in school and in the community.
  • Provide case management for clients with multiple and complex needs, this includes referrals to internal and/or external programs.
  • Work collaboratively to ensure a positive teamwork environment when planning around shared clients and the coordination of services between programs.
  • Develop and co-facilitate workshops and/or groups for diverse client populations.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Completion of post-secondary education in Child and Youth Worker, Child and Youth Care, Social Work or a related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working with children, youth and families.
  • Registration with a governing body where applicable.
  • A willingness to work flexible hours which include 2 evenings per week; comfortable working in a client's home, the community or school setting as needed.
  • Must be fluent speaking, writing, and reading in English.
  • Awareness and appreciation for the dynamics of equity issues (diversity, equity and inclusion), especially as it relates to gender, ethnicity, race, and economic status.
  • Possess a strong aptitude to work in a multi-disciplinary team and agency that supports an ongoing learning environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations.
  • Demonstrates sound judgement related to the development of collaborative approaches working with children, youth and their families, including high-risk circumstances and safety planning.
  • Ability to identify learning needs, seek consultation and support through supervision.
  • Experience facilitating groups, webinars, and workshops.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (e.g., verbal, report writing, empathy).
  • Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills.
  • Functional technological skills (e.g., Office 360, MS Office, SharePoint, and Client Databases).
