Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Neuroscience and Multimodal AI
2 weeks ago
Note: Applications will be accepted until 11:59 PM on the Posting End Date.
Job End DateFebruary 28, 2027
The expected salary for this position is $55,000–$70,000 CAD per year.
The Michael Smith Laboratories and the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada, invite applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Tang Lab. The Tang Lab ) develops interpretable and autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) systems for biological and biomedical research. Our neuroscience program focuses on AI-driven analysis of multimodal neural data, in close collaboration with leading experimental neuroscience groups at UBC and internationally.
Project
Recent advances in neuroscience have generated large-scale, multimodal datasets spanning neural imaging, electrophysiology, behavior, and molecular profiling. While these data offer unprecedented opportunities to understand brain function, integrating and interpreting them across modalities remains a fundamental challenge.
The successful candidate will develop computational and machine-learning frameworks for multimodal neuroscience data. Research will focus on neural data integration, neural circuit modeling, biologically grounded representation learning, and foundation models for neurobiology. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work closely with experimental collaborators to connect computational innovations to biological insight, with the goal of producing high-impact publications in computational neuroscience and AI.
Candidate
We are seeking candidates with strong backgrounds in computational neuroscience and machine learning. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field, with a strong record of research productivity.
The ideal candidate will have experience analyzing at least one major type of neuroscience dataset (e.g., imaging, electrophysiology, or behavioral data) and be proficient in Python and modern deep-learning frameworks (ideally PyTorch). Experience in computer vision, multimodal data fusion, self-supervised or generative modeling is highly desirable. Familiarity with explainable AI, causal inference, or biologically inspired neural networks, as well as experience collaborating with experimental laboratories, will be considered strong assets. Candidates should be able to work independently while contributing effectively to interdisciplinary teams.
Opportunity
The Postdoctoral Fellow will join a highly collaborative neuroscience and AI research environment at UBC, with access to rich multimodal datasets and close partnerships with experimental groups. The position provides opportunities to lead interdisciplinary projects, publish in top-tier venues, and develop an independent research profile. Vancouver is consistently ranked among the world's most livable cities, and UBC provides an outstanding environment for scientific research and career development.
Salary
The expected salary for this position is $55,000–$70,000 CAD plus benefits per year, commensurate with experience.
Appointment
The appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of extension subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
Application Process
Interested applicants should submit a single PDF containing a curriculum vitae (including publication list), a brief research statement (1–2 pages), and contact information for 2–3 references. Applications should be submitted to the UBC Careers portal no later than the posting date. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
