ROLE PURPOSE
The Labour Relations Specialist will work as part of the People and Culture team to provide advice on employee and labour relations, participate in investigations, and support the training and coaching of the management team on labour relations processes and best practices. This role is expected to be customer service-oriented and exhibit a high degree of diplomacy and discretion.
STATUS AND CLASSIFICATION
Exempt. This position is open to applicants of all genders.

- Full Time (40 Hours a week)
- Rotations:

REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports and is accountable to the Senior Manager of People and Culture or their designate
- Participates as a member of the Connective Administrative Support Team
- Liaises with staff and volunteers of community and government agencies as required
- Liaises with the staff of Connective as necessary
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Supports the management team on adhering to the terms of the collective agreement.
- Works with Union Representatives on the management of labour issues including participating in labour relations committees, grievance management, and addressing day-to-day inquires.
- Communicates key People (HR) messages and programs to management teams.
- Supports the successful implementation of People (HR) initiatives, training, processes, and policies.
- Proactively works with teams on process improvements in areas of employee and labour relations, engagement, conflict resolution and workforce management.
- Supports and advises managers in preparation for difficult conversations.
- Advises management of potential employee issues and oversees the investigation required to successfully work through employee issues.
- Participates in investigations and makes recommendations to management.
- Maintains confidential personnel documents and files, ensuring all required documentation is provided and up to date.
- Generates communication and documentation of all investigations as per Collective Agreement.
- Assists with and establishes best practices related to investigations.
- Researches and provides updates to provincial laws and changes to the Employment Standards Act (ESA).
- Collects and maintains case tracking system for investigations and labour relations incidents.
- Develops metrics to identify employee relations trends and make recommendations.
- Develops and trains management on employee relations best practices, including the progressive discipline process.
- Leads mediations as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Function independently, while remaining a crucial member of the support team
- Adhere to Connective policies and procedures
- Contract position must be available to work flexible hours as needed. May include some evenings/weekends as needed.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- A relevant degree, diploma or certificate, or combination of education and experience
- Five (5) years of experience working with People & Culture and Labour Relations
- CPHR Designation is preferred
- Experience building strong working with union relations
- At least five years of related/transferable experience
- Strong skills with Microsoft Office, Zoom and other meeting and webinar platforms
- Ability to manage time efficiently, high level of accuracy, and attention to detail
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with team members, clients, partners and stakeholders
- Strong communication skills (listening, verbal and written)
REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to successfully complete a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check
- Ability to successfully pass a reference check
- Proof of vaccination for communicable diseases may be required as mandated by Government, Health Authority, and/or funder requirements.
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this exempt position will be $ 69,200.00 to $ 86,520.00
Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
