Position Summary
The Asbestos Abatement Instructor's role is delivering abatement training programs to client groups throughout Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and anywhere else our work takes us. When not teaching, administrative functions may include course and curriculum development, equipment maintenance, logistical planning, and/or operational taskings (health and safety consulting, site hazard evaluations, medic services, etc.) commensurate with qualifications and abilities. Though delivering abatement programs is the primary function of this position, instructors are also expected to develop the capacity to instruct programs in other areas, such as industrial safety.
Responsibilities
· Prepare and deliver asbestos abatement training programs
· Support ongoing refinement of existing programs
· Support the development of new training curriculum and materials
· Support marketing and business development efforts
· Maintenance of training equipment and materials
· Provide operational services to clients (health and safety consulting, site hazard evaluations, medic services, etc.) commensurate with qualifications and abilities
· Traveling (independently or with colleagues) to remote locations throughout the Canadian North from one week to up to a month at a time
Mandatory Requirements
- Experience teaching Asbestos Abatement programs in Alberta or other locations in Canada
- Experience teaching adult learners
- Competence and experience managing high-hazard activities, exercising excellent safety judgement, decision-making, and risk management
- Strong and courteous written and oral communication skills
- Flexibility, adaptability, and energy allowing you to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
- Integrity, professionalism, maturity, reliability, and accountability
- Ability and desire to expand areas of expertise and develop new capabilities
- Responsible, self-motivated, able to self-direct and solve problems independently
- Clean Criminal Record Check
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with colleagues, students, and clients in a team environment
- Desire to travel throughout the NWT and Northern Canada
- Substantial abatement skills and experience
- Competent and familiar with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
Preferred Requirements
Arctic Response Canada Ltd. is willing to provide on-the-job training, though formal certification and/or substantial experience in the following will be considered assets:
- Confidence and experience as a teacher or instructor (teaching/instructing experience with adult, ESL, and Indigenous learners considered an asset)
- Familiarity and competence with the program development process (curriculum design, lesson planning, development of instructional materials, design of assessment and evaluation tools)
- Industrial instructor certifications (ex. Mould Abatement, H2S Alive, Fall Protection, etc.) or experience
- Class 3 and Heavy Equipment Operator instructor qualifications or experience
- First aid, advanced first aid, wilderness first aid, and/or medic/paramedic qualification
- C.R.S.T. or N.C.S.O. certification
