THE ROLEWe are seeking a highly motivated Guardians in Training with excellent communication skills and a passion for outdoor settings to join our team The Guardian in Training will report to the Senior Manager, Environmental & Regulatory Affairs and work closely with and in support of the Environmental Guardian - Lead, especially with respect to field and environmental monitoring work. This program is an opportunity for FMFN youth ages 18-22 years old. This opportunity is a full time- temporary role, ending March 31, 2026.DUTIES:Support environmental monitoring in the Moose Lake area and broadly in FMFN's Traditional Territory;Support the Environmental Guardian - Lead prepare for and execute field work;Travel by helicopter, float-plane, boat, and OHV, as required;Support reporting and data management;Spend multiple consecutive days in the Moose Lake area;Water Quality and Quantity Monitoring, dust fall monitoring, wildlife monitoringUAV (Drone) Piloting and imagery CollectionPrepare trip and safety plans;Attend staff meetings;Participate in required training; andFollow all FMFN policies and safety requirements.EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Valid First-aid or CPR Certification is an assetValid Alberta Driver's LicenseATV/OHV Training Certificate is an assetHigh School Diploma/GED/CAEC is an assetABOUT FORT MCKAYThe Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is composed of over 800 band members, including those of Cree and Dene heritage, with approximately 400 members residing in the hamlet of Fort McKay — a community located approximately 65 km north of Fort McMurray.
