Primary Duties
Reporting to the Supervisor, Inspection and Support, the successful student will perform the following duties:
- Assist lead inspector with field locates required for construction projects.
- Undertake field measurements during construction to verify quantities for payment such as pipe lengths or rock calculations etc.
- Be responsible for taking clear, and concise field notes and records for completion of as-built drawings and records i.e. tie-ins, elevations and grades of new and existing utility underground plant.
- Complete as-built drawings/sketches as required including lot service detail sheets.
- Liaise with residents and businesses affected by the construction project.
- Undertake preliminary survey work and data collection.
- Ensure contractor compliance with contract documents and specifications.
- GPS surveying.
- Migrate data from field to office computers.
- Maintain and clean equipment.
Education, Certification and Other Qualifications Required
- Familiarity with GPS technology, an asset.
- Familiarity with Builterra Inspection software considered an asset
- Ability to read and interpret plan and profile and drawings.
- Experience with ACAD and Microsoft Office products and GIS Technology.
- Previous experience in civil construction projects, an asset.
- Comfortable working with databases.
- Demonstrated capacity to recognize problems or issues and determine appropriate course of action.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Special Working Conditions/Conditions of Employment
- Full-time student at a recognized post-secondary educational institution, and returning to full time attendance in the Fall of 2026.
- Completion of a Criminal Record Check at the employee's own expense, and to the satisfaction of Utilities Kingston.
- Valid Class 'G' driver's licence and use of personal vehicle to get from office to job site is required.
This vacancy is available to give students practical, hands-on experience during the summer months while supporting our team with regular operations
