Established in 1927, the Department of Psychology has for over a century been a top choice for those pursuing a career in psychological research. The combined expertise of our faculty spans all major areas of psychology and reflects a wide range of approaches to the study of mind, brain, and behaviour. Our department consists of a diverse and internationally recognized faculty, first-rate laboratory facilities, and a tradition of cutting-edge, collaborative research in an inspiring intellectual atmosphere. We take pride in prevailing as an important department in today's competitive psychology research and education fields.
Under close supervision of the principal investigator, the Lab Coordinator will be responsible for general lab maintenance and supporting research activities including, assisting with subject recruitment, database maintenance and subject testing.
This is a full-time, term position for up to seven (7) months.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Proofing and posting adverts to recruit applicants
- Preparing consent forms using templates
- Following rules and procedural instructions when administering research studies
- Recording and tabulating experiment results
- Providing some care to prevent physical or emotional injury or harm
- Recording or verifying transactions on a single account
- Providing orientation to others on work procedures and practices
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum one(1) year experience in developmental psychology or developmental neuroscience research
- Experience working with and testing infants and young children on behavioral/active tasks, psychophysiological methodologies (e.g., pupil dilation, heart rate, skin conductance etc.), and looking-based tasks
- Experience working in a research lab with general knowledge of research methodology
- Experience running and recruiting participants for research purposes for developmental studies
- Experience providing direction/orientation to students/research participants
- Experience in behavioural testing
- Demonstrated ability to prepare statistical reports and data entry
- Experience with ethics applications
- Demonstrated experience with social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) to communicate with participant recruitment and knowledge dissemination
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (required). SPSS, Prolific, Datavyu, and Baby Face Reader proficiency is preferred
- Programming skills are an asset
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal skills are required
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize to meet deadlines

- Specific course work in developmental psychology, cognitive, and/or social psychology preferred

USW Pay Band $53,426. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $68,323. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
