About us:
The Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering is home to about 60 professors leading research on a very broad range of topics. On the Industrial Engineering side, research areas include Operations Research, Information Engineering, Human Factors, and Applied Machine Learning, all of which seek to improve the systems we as humans rely on to navigate our world. On the Mechanical Engineering side, research areas include Robotics, Mechanics & Design, Materials, and Thermofluids, topics that are applied to applications including manufacturing, energy production, and bioengineering.
We are also home to about 2,000 very talented students: about 1,300 undergraduates are enrolled in the Industrial Engineering and in the Mechanical Engineering BASc programs. We have about 350 Master of Engineering (MEng) students, a professional program for students taking courses with us for a year or two. And we have about 350 MASc and PhD students, who work individually on research projects with a particular professor.

Your opportunity:
Lawson Climate Institute was established in 2025 in recognition of a generous donation from Brian and Joannah Lawson Foundation. It will deliver high class training for the leaders of the future and provide multi- and inter-disciplinary research in technology, innovation, sustainable finance and climate policy. The incumbent will support the strategic development of grants and scholarships and end to end delivery of these programs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising faculty on funding application strategies.
- Identifying, developing and executing strategies for research and development collaborations.
- Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting.
- Planning and overseeing activities that enhance and expand research funding activity and effectiveness.
- Developing and implementing plans that support the attainment of research awards and honours.
- Developing marketing and partnership plans that support research needs and objectives.
- Disseminating information regarding research funding programs and opportunities to the research community.
- Writing applications for research funding.
Essential Qualifications:
- Master's degree in environmental sustainability or a related discipline, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years of relevant experience in a combination of research administration, awards and honours management, and grant writing.
- Experience developing strategic initiatives to increase research funding, awards, and program recognition.
- Proven experience in building partnerships with external organizations such as government agencies, private sector partners, and NGOs.
- Demonstrated success in developing and coordinating award nomination processes in a professional research setting, or equivalent experience.
- Experience developing metrics, capturing and analyzing performance data, and presenting reports for internal and external reporting bodies.
- Experience developing and delivering presentations and workshops to promote programs, opportunities and/or initiatives.
- Knowledge of all aspects of the grants lifecycle; research funding strategies; applications and proposals; and compliance monitoring.
- Strong understanding of research funding programs, academic awards and honours, and nomination processes at national and international levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the proven ability to convey complex information to a wide range of audience through different mediums.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret funding policies, and provide expert recommendations.
- Ability to foster and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, academic leaders, administrators, funding agencies, and research partners.
- Detail-oriented with strong project management skills, capable of handling multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and demonstrated ability to work independently while also being an effective team player.
- Highly developed computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of confidentiality, professionalism, good judgment, initiative, tact and discretion.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 15 - $97,348. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $124,491. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
