With several operating businesses in Canada, interests in U.S. projects, and a robust pipeline of development opportunities, Envest is entering its next phase of growth and requires an experienced Controller to strengthen its financial operations and reporting capabilities.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Controller is responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of Envest's accounting, reporting, audit, and compliance functions. This includes leading the monthly close process, maintaining a strong internal control framework, managing external audits, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and tax requirements, and producing financial reporting that supports management and investor decision-making.

As the company continues to scale, the Controller will be instrumental in establishing efficient systems, policies, and procedures to support a growing organization across multiple operating businesses. The role will supervise the Accounting & Reporting function and collaborate closely with Treasury, FP&A, Operations, and Development teams to ensure a cohesive financial environment.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this position is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented financial leader who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and is eager to help shape the financial backbone of a growing, renewable-energy company.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations

·       Oversee all day-to-day accounting activities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, accruals, and journal entries.

·       Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and consolidation process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

·       Prepare internal and external financial statements in accordance with ASPE or IFRS as applicable.

·       Maintain chart of accounts, cost centers, and intercompany accounting frameworks aligned with Envest's project and corporate structure.

·       Ensure accurate and complete accounting for project-level and consolidated business activities.

Internal Controls & Compliance

·       Develop and maintain an effective internal control framework, including segregation of duties and approval workflows.

·       Implement and document accounting policies, procedures, and process improvements consistent with best practices for a growing enterprise.

·       Ensure compliance with corporate, tax, and regulatory reporting requirements.

·       Manage the coordination and completion of annual financial audits, liaising with external auditors and advisors.

·       Support corporate governance and risk management initiatives.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Business Support

·       Partner with FP&A and Operations to provide actual-vs-budget variance analysis, trends, and insights.

·       Contribute to the annual budgeting and forecasting process through accurate historical data and reporting discipline.

·       Provide accounting support for project development, construction, and operational phases, including capitalization, depreciation, and cost tracking.

Cash Management & Systems

·       Collaborate with Treasury on cash-flow management, banking, and working-capital requirements.

·       Monitor and forecast cash positions, ensuring adequate liquidity for operations and project execution.

·       Oversee accounting system optimization, including automation, reporting tools, and integration with project-level systems.

Leadership & Team Development

·       Supervise and mentor the Accounting & Reporting team, fostering accuracy, accountability, and professional growth.

·       Support a collaborative finance culture that balances strategic insight with operational rigor.

·       Work cross-functionally with Operations, Development, and Project Execution teams to ensure financial consistency across the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education & Designations

·       CPA designation (Canadian) required.

·       Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.

Experience

· years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or Controller capacity.

·       Proven experience implementing accounting processes and controls in a growing small-to-mid-sized business.

·       Background in energy, infrastructure, or capital-project-driven industries preferred.

·       Strong technical accounting knowledge (ASPE or IFRS).

·       Hands-on experience with consolidations, audit coordination, and financial statement preparation.

·       Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

·       Experience with Canadian corporate and commodity taxation.

·       Experience with U.S. reporting and tax regulations, especially in the energy sector, preferred.

·       Proficiency with accounting and ERP software (e.g., QuickBooks Enterprise, NetSuite, or equivalent) and advanced Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills.

·       Collaborative and pragmatic leader comfortable working in an entrepreneurial culture.
