Interim Chief Restructuring Officer
Reports to: President
Duration: 3–6 months
Location: GTA, ON
Hybrid working
A leading post-secondary institution seeks a bold, visionary professional to drive a new approach to financial sustainability. This role is designed for a strategic disruptor, someone who will challenge conventional thinking, ask tough questions, and help the organization rethink current operational models. The successful candidate will objectively assess all aspects of the operation, identifying and recommending innovative, sustainable ways to drive costs out of the organization without compromising its brand or core value to students.
Strategic Mandate
- Challenge the Status Quo:
- Proactively question existing cost structures, operational practices, and resource allocations. Encourage leadership and teams to think differently about what drives value for students and the institution.
- Disruptive Leadership:
- Lead by example, fostering a culture of openness to change and constructive challenge. Push boundaries to uncover hidden inefficiencies and opportunities for transformation.
- Objective Assessment:
- Conduct a rigorous, unbiased review of all operational areas. Use data-driven analysis to validate assumptions and identify areas for sustainable cost reduction.
- Strategic Recommendations:
- Deliver clear, actionable recommendations to executive leadership, focused on long-term financial health and enhanced value for students.
- Sustainable Cost Management:
- Ensure that cost-saving measures do not negatively impact the institution's brand, reputation, or student experience. Prioritize initiatives that protect and enrich core services.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Engage with executive teams, unions, and external partners to build consensus and drive change. Communicate transparently and persuasively to align stakeholders with the recovery strategy.
Deliverables
- Champion a student-centric approach to financial recovery, ensuring that all initiatives directly or indirectly enhance the value delivered to learners.
- Shape and execute a forward-looking financial strategy that balances immediate recovery needs with the institution's long-term mission and growth.
- Lead the Finance Task Force and Finance Modernization Sub-Committee, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and transparency.
- Deliver rapid, data-driven assessments and actionable recommendations that enable executive leadership to make timely, informed investment decisions.
- Oversee the design and implementation of cost-saving measures that protect and enrich core academic and support services.
- Ensure all financial recovery actions are aligned with the institution's guiding principles and future vision.
- A revitalized financial strategy that challenges old paradigms and delivers sustainable value for students.
Qualifications & Education:
- 10+ years in senior finance or operational leadership roles.
- Proven track record in organizational turnaround or restructuring.
- Strategic financial leadership and modeling.
- Expertise in budget recovery, scenario planning, and cost optimization.
- Transformational change management and cross-functional leadership.
- Led reviews of complex real estate portfolios.
- Advanced analytical skills and experience with financial automation tools.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Led tangible, lasting improvements in operational efficiency and financial health.
- Bulit cultures of continuous improvement and openness to disruptive, positive change.
