The Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services leads housing, assisted living and continuing care, seniors, income, employment and homelessness supports, disability services, and other social-based programs. For more information about SCSS, visit our website:

The Continuing Care Branch is responsible for the development and implementation of provincial policy and regulations for home and community care and continuing care homes. This includes working closely with Assisted Living Alberta/Alberta Health Services (AHS) in planning for continuing care service needs across the province in both the short and longer term.

Role Responsibilities

The Director supports the overall compliance monitoring functions of the branch and supports the operational areas mandated under the Continuing Care Act.

In this role, you will provide strategic leadership to the Continuing Care Units by overseeing legislative compliance and implementing a robust audit framework. You will ensure client safety, prevent critical and reportable incidents, and drive continuous quality improvement across continuing care services.

As a Director Continuing Care Audit you will build and maintain a high-performing, knowledgeable, and adaptable team by ensuring the necessary systems and resources are in place to fulfill the unit's legislative and policy mandate, including oversight of the Health Compliance Unit. You will review and approve reports, briefing notes, and public responses for submission to the Executive Director, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and standards.

In order to be successful in this role, you will support the Minister and Senior Executive Leaders in advancing government priorities by providing expert guidance and strategic insight. You will represent the Ministry's perspective and position on cross-divisional, cross-ministry, and cross-jurisdictional committees, ensuring alignment with legislative mandates and policy objectives.

In this role, you will lead the continuous improvement of the Continuing Care mandate to ensure its ongoing relevance, effectiveness, and alignment with evolving policy, legislative, and client needs.

You will serve as the Director and senior provincial regulatory authority for matters related to the Continuing Care Act, ensuring actions are aligned with legislated responsibilities and Ministry priorities. You will also maintain relationships that enhance services for Albertans by developing and maintain strategic networks.

Qualifications

Required:
University graduation in a field of Health or Law, supplemented by four years related experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered based on:

  • Related university degree and 4 years related experience.
  • Related diploma and 6 years related experience.
  • Related certificate and 7 years related experience.


Assets:

  • Experience in regulatory environments.
  • Experience with auditing/evaluation techniques.
  • Financial and policy literacy within a government environment.

Hours of work are 36.25 weekly, Monday to Friday.

This competition will be used to fill a temporary position in Edmonton or Calgary or Red Deer. The position is full-time.
