The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety has an exciting opportunity in Prince Albert and Regina, for a Provincial Training Officer within Provincial Protective Services branch.

Reporting to the Senior Provincial Training Officer, this position will assist in the development, research, coordination and delivery of all mandatory Use of Force training and Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Safe Work Procedures training for the branch. Demonstrated leadership and an ability to work successfully in a team environment are required. This position will assign duties and schedule training venues for numerous instructors within the branch.

You will have knowledge of applicable federal and provincial legislation, policies, programs, and agreements centered around the Provincial Use of Force Model as well as OH&S requirements pertaining to a diverse group of law enforcement officers. This position will require knowledge of law enforcement, court procedures, legal documents and processes and will have the ability to apply conflict resolution skills. Knowledge of training methods, adult education theories and approaches for the development and delivery of appropriate training based on trends and industry standards will be critical to the success of this position.

Typically, the competencies required for this position would be obtained through the successful completion of a degree or diploma program in law enforcement such as: police foundations, law enforcement, or environmental law supplemented with extensive experience as a special constable. This experience will include the delivery of training as a certified instructor, training needs analysis and curriculum design.

Applicants must be currently qualified in the occupational mandatory training (which includes meeting the standard use of force qualification relating to defensive tactics, impact weapons, oleoresin capsicum spray, practical shotgun handling as well as passing the Municipal Police Firearms Course). The successful candidate will be required to recertify annually in the mandatory training. (Employees that have successfully passed the mandatory use of force training within the previous yearly training cycle will be deemed qualified and will not require a PARE test). Applicants should be certified in at least one or more occupational health mandatory training disciplines.

As a member of the Provincial Protection and Response Team to ensure public safety, you will aid in the reduction of crime in Saskatchewan by responding to 911 calls when RCMP or Municipal Police agencies are unavailable or when you could provide the fastest first response. You will take direct enforcement action during crimes in progress and will provide assistance and support to police agencies as requested.
