Your Opportunity

At KRP, you will be exposed to all facets of public accounting. Your work experience as an articling student ranges from handling an entire file within the first few weeks of work, preparing individual, corporate, and trust tax returns, to providing assurance services as a team member on larger assignments. You will be given the opportunity for involvement and participation in the "whole picture" on assignments, an integral part of training at work and for your CPA studies and the CFE. We also provide ongoing mentoring and training for students to enable you to succeed at each level of the CPAWSB program including the CFE. You will gain a set of marketable skills directly applicable to your studies that will help you in your CFE and ensure your success.

Your Scope:

  • Acquire proficiencies in the following domains: compilation, review, bookkeeping, and taxation
  • Gain expertise in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and/or Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE), along with a deep understanding of the Canadian Income Tax Act and associated laws
  • Initialize client files and oversee the management of multiple files concurrently, including conducting inventory audits
  • Prepare financial statements and tax returns for corporate, personal, and trust client
  • Investigate diverse tax-related matters and draw conclusions on potential ramifications
  • Gather and assess pertinent financial and tax information
  • Examine, rectify, and address disparities and anomalies in financial records, documents, and reports
  • Calculate tax liabilities and prepare tax declarations for various entity types
  • Generate written communications, technical assessments, client synopses, and presentations elucidating engagement discoveries, facts, and key points
  • Assume the position of trusted liaison between managers, partners and clients
  • Work within time budgets, monitors progress to budget and meets deadlines
  • Accept responsibility for role within work teams
  • Participate in education and training programs

Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Commerce degree or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institute with a major in Accounting
  • Knowledge and experience working in accounting software such as CaseWare, Tax Prep, QuickBooks, and Simply Accounting would be an asset
  • Completion of all required CPA pre-requisite courses, as outlined by CPA Alberta
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel would be an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills, capable of multitasking various tasks, projects, and strategic improvement initiatives
