We are looking for a researcher to join our User Experience Research team. This role involves planning and conducting research on UX projects that directly impact the experience of millions of users worldwide. We aim to gain a deep understanding of the problems educators, learners, and administrators face so we can create a product that is valuable and intuitive.

UX Research works directly alongside the Product Design team, and both are part of the UX Department at D2L. This means we work closely with Product Designers to inform the design of new and existing products. We get involved early in development projects to conduct research about our users' goals, motivations, and challenges. As designers work through the phases of their projects, we stay deeply engaged and execute usability research to make sure that the final product meets our users' needs and expectations.

The UX Department is part of our larger Product organization, which is responsible for creating and developing all of D2L's products. This means we collaborate with not only designers, but also Product Managers, Developers, and many other talented D2Lers on our research projects.

How You Will Make An Impact
The D2L User Experience Research team is focused on providing the resources, knowledge, and data that our company needs to make our products useful and usable. We conduct research with end users of our software, including educators, learners, and administrators, to enable our product teams to make data-informed decisions.

  • Our UXR practice is mature and still growing; we all contribute to the growth of our culture, practice, and operations.
  • We have opportunities to conduct early research and exploration; we gain a deep understanding of user problems and help others develop empathy.
  • Our product teams are collaborative, balancing Design with our partners in Product Management and Development; we have a strong voice in our projects.
  • We get to do meaningful work; we contribute to the experiences of educators, learners, and learning administrators to change the way the world learns.

What You Will Bring To The Role

  • Plan, design, and conduct research projects. Work with Product Designers, Product Managers, and project teams to identify and organize knowledge gaps.
  • Understand research methods, when to use them, and how to apply them. This includes, but is not limited to literature reviews, usability testing, semi-structured interviews, and surveys.
  • Manage participant recruitment and scheduling in a way that prioritizes participant confidentiality.
  • Analyze and synthesize research data to accurately represent participants' perspectives and experiences.
  • Report and present research process, findings, and actionable design considerations for various audiences in ways that are engaging and relevant.
  • Learn and understand the education and learning context and the product workflows and tools related to research projects
  • Evangelize research. Share insights with the broader organization and externally in creative ways to increase empathy.
  • Actively contribute to UX Research processes, documentation, and repositories; help maintain and promote the participant database.
  • Contribute to the learning culture of our team where we continually grow in the practice and actively seek out opportunities to improve our skill sets and processes.
