Optometrist

Insight Global is looking for an associate Optometrist to join a Private Optometry Practice in Hanover, Ontario. The ideal candidate will be someone who is licensed to practice in Ontario and passionate about delivering the best health care while increasing scope of practice and pushing their profession forward This person will be responsible for conducting eye examinations, diagnosing and treating ocular conditions, prescribing and fitting corrective lenses, providing patient counselling and education, co-managing patient care, identifying systemic health issues and maintaining patient records.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

· Conducting eye examinations: Performing thorough vision tests and using specialized instruments like ophthalmoscopes and biomicroscopes to assess the health of the eyes and visual efficiency.

· Diagnosing and treating ocular conditions: Identifying and managing a wide range of eye diseases and disorders, such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration, and prescribing appropriate oral or topical medications.

· Prescribing and fitting corrective lenses: Determining and prescribing eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other visual aids (e.g., magnifiers for low vision patients) and ensuring a proper fit.

· Patient counseling and education: Educating and advising patients on proper contact lens use and care, ocular hygiene, surgical and non-surgical options, and preventative care related to their lifestyle and occupation.

· Co-managing patient care: Collaborating with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals to provide pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing eye surgeries, such as laser vision correction or cataract removal.

· Identifying systemic health issues: Evaluating patients for signs of underlying systemic health conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, that can manifest in the eyes, and referring them to the appropriate physicians for further testing and treatment.

· Maintaining patient records: Accurately documenting patient histories, test results, diagnoses, and treatment plans.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Experience with an EMR system, charting and OHIP billing

Interest in speciality areas (myopia control, dry eye, Neurolens, Avulux, VT)

Previous experience working collaboratively within a private practice clinic environment with support staff (OAs, Opticians etc.,)
